Homestays

Students live with families either in El Paso or Ciudad Juárez, an essential part of the overall educational program.

"My host family was the best part of my semester here. With them I got to know life in Juárez, and I improved my Spanish. They were my support, and they are the reason that I will return to visit."

The homestays have the potential to be very important learning experiences during the semester and provide an avenue for students to participate in daily life on the border. The border is a bilingual region.

Students who live with families in Ciudad Juarez are immersed in a Spanish speaking setting with wonderful opportunities to improve their language skills. Students who live in El Paso may live with a Spanish speaking family or with a family who has relatives on either side of the border who speak Spanish.

Living with a Family

---Students have described their homestays with the following comments: "My host family took me in like I was their own child. My mom and I really bonded, and I felt loved by them!"

"It was the most beneficial experience for my language development."

"The best part about living with a host family was meeting a lot of new people--both the immediate family and the extended family, all of whom I shared good times with."
