Explore, Experience, Engage!

At Earlham Explore-A-College you can take a two-week class taught by an Earlham professor and develop college-level study and research skills that you will be able to apply to future classes and careers. You will learn what college professors at one of the nation’s leading liberal arts colleges expect and how to manage your time effectively. Just as important, you will be introduced to what college life is like: being away from home, having a roommate, and getting to know students from all over the U.S.A. and from several other countries.

Outside of the classroom you can participate in events that mirror those offered during the academic year: convocation, community service, and a mini international festival. Other activities, such as movies, trips off-campus, informal study breaks, will give you a sense of what college life might be like. Earlham students serve as your teaching assistants and as dorm counselors, giving you an additional opportunity to ask about the many aspects of college life. You will have access to College facilities, including tennis and racquetball courts, an indoor pool, the energy center, and acres of hiking and jogging trails.

Attending Explore-A-College is a risk-free way to prepare yourself for the real thing! In addition, you will earn two semester hours of college credit upon successful completion of the two-week course.

If you will be entering your sophomore, junior, or senior year in the fall of 2008, you are eligible to apply. Explore-A-College students generally have at least a B average in their high school classes and have scored at least 530 Verbal or 480 Math on the SAT I or PSAT, or have scored at the 90th percentile on standardized achievement tests. Along with your application, you will need to send a recommendation from a teacher and one from your high school guidance counselor, and a copy of your high school transcript.
