Japanese Studies
at Earlham

The Program

Earlham does not offer a Japanese language major. However, most Japanese Studies majors study Japanese beyond the language requirement of the major, which is one 300-level course or above. Non-Japanese Studies majors may fulfill the language requirement by taking basic Japanese courses. Many students continue their Japanese study and participate in off-campus programs in Japan. The Japanese language minor enables students to incorporate Japanese into their major.

The Minor

The Japanese language minor requires:

  •  Four (4) courses at the 300-level or above which include two Japanese language courses, one Japanese independent study integrated with
a student’s major, and one Japanese Studies course, excluding language skill focused courses.
