Engaging the World

Earlham College Model United Nations

Students involved in Earlham College Model United Nations enjoy experiential learning engaged in global problems and world politics. We also learn about the international organizations and their importance in global change. Everyone is welcome to participate!

Earlham MUNers actively take advantage of opportunities to study abroad while at Earlham through our nationally and internationally recognized International Programs Office(IPO). This year's senior staff speaks four languages and has been to three dozen countries! Together, we attend Model United Nations conferences, such as the American Model United Nations Conference (AMUN), North American Model United Nations (NAMUN), and Lakie Erie International Model United Nations (LEIMUN). We have had special briefings by the Director of the Quaker United Nations Office (QUNO). At these events we learn how the United Nations works and practice skills such as caucusing, negotiation, consensus-building, compromise, and conflict resolution.Dear to our heart is ECMUN, our very own Model United Nations conference for high school MUNers, that we host, each January, on the Earlham College campus. It is an utmost pleasure to pass on this passion of ours for international relations, and the building of a better, fairer and more united world. Curricular support for Earlham College Model United Nations is provided by Issues Before the United Nations, International Law, Theories of International Realtions, and Off-Campus Programs, to name a few key resources. The Earlham College Plowshares Program has recently been the greatest sponsor to the Model United Nations experience in our College.
