"The most positive features of physics classes at Earlham are their small sizes and the faculty's committment to teaching. I feel completely comfortable interrupting my professors' lectures at any time to ask questions, or visiting their offices outside of class. This type of one-on-one interaction helps develop a thorough understanding of the subject matter, preparing me well for further study at the graduate level."

Mike's Course Schedule: Physics Major

First Year

Second Year

Third Year

Fourth Year

The basic training provided by a major in physics gives the student experience in experimental design, the analysis of data, computer usage, and analytical reasoning in addition to an understanding of physical phenomena. A physics major therefore has wide vocational possibilities outside of research physics.

Not all students who major in physics intend to do graduate studies in physics. Physics fosters habits of thought that are useful in careers ranging from urban planning through business and law to medical research. Physics majors with such interests should plan academic programs which include courses in other departments consistent with their career goals.
