Gospel Revelations is a gospel choir dedicated to learning
and performing gospel music. Gospel Revelations provides an opportunity
for students to learn about and participate in an aspect of the
African-American experience here on campus by participation in the
rich musical traditions of the African-American church.
The choir is a special place on campus for African
Americans to find a familiar and supportive place in the midst of
a diverse campus. It is also a place for those unfamiliar with the
gospel music tradition to authentically participate in this aspect
of African American life in a way that creates understanding and
gives due respect and credibility to African American experiences.
As gospel music is inherently an extension of the African American
religious experience, Gospel Revelations is in some measure an extension
of that experience. However, Earlham’s gospel choir does not
require any specific religious experience of affiliation. Gospel
Revelations is open to anyone who can represent and respect the
traditions of gospel music.
Along with learning about the gospel tradition, Gospel
Revelations is foremost a performance group. It brings a spiritual
experience to its performances that is enlivening and empowering.
Anyone, regardless of race or ethnicity, can identify wit the emotions
that run through the power of its electric expressions of faith
and celebration. Gospel Revelations performs locally and nationally,
along with a full schedule here on campus.
