Once You Arrive on Campus…
Important Policy Information
May Term
There is no financial aid specifically for May Term
coursework. If you register for May Term when you register for Spring
Semester AND your May Term hours do not bump you over 18 hours,
then your May Term hours are considered part of Spring Semester,
and your Spring Semester Financial Aid will apply. It may be possible
to get additional loan monies to cover transportation costs for
a May Term course which is off-campus. Set up an appointment with
the Director of Financial Aid if you are interested in this additional
loan funding.
Off-Campus Programs
A student may receive Earlham-funded aid, either merit and/or
need-based, for one Earlham or GLCA approved off-campus
program.
Federal and/or state funded aid may be used for more than one Earlham
or GLCA approved off-campus program. Earlham-funded aid is not available for May Term programs charges or other expenses.
An international student participating on an approved
off-campus program whose International Student Scholarship (or
a fund which replaces this particular scholarship) is based on
tuition will have their International Student Scholarship for the
off-campus programs calculated as per the tuition of the off-campus
program's
tuition. The basis for the calculation will not be more than Earlham
College tuition for the equivalent period.
Leaves of Absence or Withdrawing
from Earlham
A student may take an approved leave of absence if
they request the leave in writing and it is approved by the Student
Development Office. Direct Loan and Perkins Loan regulations regarding
leaves of absence differ significantly from Earlham's leave of absence
policies. Therefore, a student receiving any type of financial assistance
is required to consult with the Financial Aid Office as per the
leave request procedure of the Student Development Office. A student
who withdraws from Earlham, and is receiving any type of financial
assistance, must also consult with the Financial Aid Office prior
to withdrawing from Earlham.
Graduation
If you have borrowed through the Direct or Perkins
Loan programs, you will be required to participate in an Exit Counseling
Session for each type of loan prior to graduation. During this session
you will be provided information regarding your total indebtedness
as well as the different repayment plans available to you. You will
also be informed of the ramifications of defaulting on your student
loans.
A few months prior to graduation, it is wise to double-check the
status of your student account with the Accounting Office, to be
certain that all outstanding balances have been paid.
