Planning is a distinctively human activity, a process of stepping outside the mindset of our everyday activities to review the past, take stock of the present and imagine the future. Over the years, Earlham has engaged in a number of separate, but interwoven, planning processes that have expressed and enhanced Earlham's sense of institutional identity.

In September 2011, Earlham formed an Ad Hoc College Planning Committee to discern the distance between where Earlham is and where it desires to be, and to devise a mission plan moving forward.

In each case, we have engaged in extensive consultation to examine our mission, utilize institutional research data to assess current activities and resources, and articulate future institutional goals to carry that mission forward. It has been important to understand that any such plan represents, essentially, an outline of intentions regarding programs, personnel and facilities.
