Through your Application for Admission we learn all about you. Second only the admission interview, your application is a prime communicator of your academic career so far; it fills us in on your other pursuits —from jobs you’ve held, awards you’ve won, activities you’ve enjoyed. Your application also provides the opinions of teachers and guidance counselors. Through your application essay and choice of topic, we get an idea of your writing style and often see a side of you not shared in the rest of the application.
Take the time to do it right! Your Application for Admission is Earlham’s most important source of information about you. This Application Requirements Checklist will assist you through the process.
At Earlham, two admissions counselors thoroughly review your application prior to the decision of the Admissions Committee. Not relying on a strict formula to compute a student’s acceptance, Earlham’s admission decisions grow from a careful reading of your application materials. We consider your high school course work, your achievements in those courses, comments made by your teachers, and many other pieces of information. Working with the Committee, the Admissions Staff makes an informed admission decision.
A first-year student may choose to submit an application for the Fall Semester during one of three decision periods: Early Decision, Early Action or Regular Decision. No preference is given to or penalty imposed on students applying for admission through a specific decision period. As long as one of the stated admission deadlines is met, students have an equal opportunity to gain admission to Earlham.
Financial aid packages are not influenced by the decision period under which a student applies for admission, as long as the student has met a stated admission deadline and files the FAFSA and the EFAA by March 1.
Students may be admitted to Earlham as new students during the Spring Semester. However, first-year students are strongly encouraged to begin their academic career at Earlham at the beginning of an academic year.
Please contact a member of the Admissions staff if you have questions about applying to Earlham.
