Application Requirements Checklist

For First-Year Students

  • Basic Application Form – The student completes, providing personal information, high school information, academic interest(s), extra-curricular activities, etc. Earlham uses the Common Application exclusively.
  • Supplemental Information Form – The student completes, can be found on the Common Application website or downloaded (PDF).
  • Nonrefundable $30 application fee – You can pay on-line when you submit your application through Common Application On-Line or mail a check payable to Earlham College. Earlham subscribes to the College Board's Fee Waiver Program. If the application fee is a hardship, please consult your high school guidance counselor.
  • Secondary School Report and Counselor Recommendation – The high school guidance office completes and submits this portion of the application. Be sure to request a copy of your high school transcript to be sent
    with this form.
  • Teacher's Recommendation – The teacher of your choice completes and submits this portion. Tip: choose a teacher who knows your academic work well and will be able to write a positive, supportive recommendation for you.
  • Standardized Test Scores – SAT Reasoning Test or ACT scores are required. If you take the ACT, you must also take the writing portion of the test. Make sure you request that the College Board (SAT) or the American College Testing Service (ACT) send your scores to Earlham. Earlham's SAT code number is 1195; our ACT code number is 1186. SAT Subject scores will be considered in our review of your application, but are not required for admission.
  • Application Essay – The Common Application includes an essay section. Your essay should be an original piece of writing, preferably not something previously written for a class. This piece of writing should demonstrate your thinking process and writing style. Suggested length is two to three typed pages.
