Transfer Admission

Students who have completed classes at the post-secondary (university) level and now wish to earn an undergraduate degree at Earlham should apply as transfer students. This includes enrollment at universities in the U.S. and abroad. Earlham’s policy does not allow transfer students to enroll as first-year (freshman) students in order to receive a larger financial aid award or to erase a previous academic record. Students who have attended or are attending a university outside the U.S. must submit official records (transcripts) from that university and any other post-secondary institution the student has attended.

Transfer Credit

International students who have attended accredited post-secondary institutions in the U.S. or elsewhere will be awarded credit, as appropriate, typically in accordance with the guidelines of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). Credit will be awarded once when an official transcript is received by the registrar at Earlham and the grade in the course is a “C” or better. International Baccalaureate (IB) subjects, General Certificate of Education (GCE) A-level subjects, and College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Programs classes as follows:

IB subjects: Eight semester hours are awarded for scores of 5, 6, or 7 on Higher level IB subjects. No credit is awarded for Subsidiary level subjects.

AP classes: Seven semester hours are awarded for scores of 4 or 5 in year-long classes. Three semester hours are awarded for a score of 4 or 5 in a semester-length class. Scores of 3 will be considered by the appropriate department. Ordinarily, IBs, GCE A-levels, and AP courses do not fulfill general education requirements.
