I am excited to announce, once again, the Davis Projects for Peace. This initiative is sponsored through the generosity of philanthropist Kathryn Wasserman Davis. It is an opportunity for Earlham undergraduates to receive up to $10,000 in the summer of 2008 for projects that actively explore and contribute to new ideas for building peace in the 21st century.
For Earlham students of any major, of any class year (including graduating seniors), of domestic or international background, this is an excellent opportunity to enact Earlham's mission commitment to the "application of what is known to improving our world." These projects may be carried out by individuals or by groups, in the United States or abroad, and they may take as their focus whatever location, method, or activity holds the most promise for peace.
100 of these projects will be funded by Kathryn Wasserman Davis, selected from among undergraduate proposals from the 85 colleges and universities in the Davis UWC Scholars Program. In addition to any Earlham projects funded by Mrs. Davis, I will provide up to $10,000 of discretionary funding to the next best Earlham project.
Students must declare their intention by submitting a preliminary application by December 14, 2007. Consisting of a two-page project proposal, one-page budget, and revised application form, the final proposal is due on January 15, 2008.
There will be an informational session (lunch provided) on December 3 from 12-1:00 p.m. in the Richmond Room for students interested in hearing more. RSVP to Adam Putnam, Assistant to the President by e-mail or phone at extension 1645 by Friday, November 30.
I highly encourage any interested students to apply for this wonderful opportunity.
Best Regards,

Doug Bennett
