The plan for new facilities in the arts was developed by BOORA architects, a Portland, Oregon-based firm with extensive experience in the arts and higher education, and a passionate commitment to simple, beautiful, sustainable and human-focused design.
The plan calls for creation of an arts complex in the south of campus, comprised of a new building and a renovation of the arts spaces in Runyan Center. The project claims a definitive central home for the arts at. Earlham, transforms the south campus, and serves as an invitation and an inspiration to every member of the community.
Features include significantly updated, upgraded, and expanded facilities and resources for every program in the arts. In the visual arts: separate studio spaces for photography, metals, ceramics, painting and drawing, and weaving, each wired for multi-media presentation; and high-quality storage and handling space for the College’s art collection. In music: a 480-seat performance and rehearsal venue with a flat floor and moveable tiered seating; rehearsal rooms for jazz and percussion; recording and editing facilities for electronic music; and individual practice rooms. In theater: the Hancock Room will be renovated for a new black box performance space, an essential laboratory for every aspect of performance.
