Student Faculty Science Research
Talk to senior science majors today, and they might say that the opportunity to participate in student/faculty research has been one of the most significant experiences during their Earlham educations. This cutting-edge scientific work often leads to research publications co-authored by students and faculty.
Much of this activity takes place in the summer. Sometimes field research is conducted during May term projects in the Galapagos or Menorca — or any of a dozen other sites around the world. Earlham has significantly increased the number of such projects sustained annually. Some of the support has come from grants, some from generous gifts from alumni, and some from the College; each year we have cobbled together what we could. Now we aspire to create a $3 million endowment fund that will provide a secure income for such student/faculty collaborative research projects.
Establishing this fund for student/faculty collaborative research will help us continue to attract and retain students and faculty who want to be part of Earlham’s superb science endeavors.
