Birding Big Day

Earlham College Birding Big Day was created in 1982 by professors of biology Jim Cope and Bill Buskirk. Jim and Bill began a yearly tradition of raising funds for the College through a day of birding in the Whitewater Valley. With Jim’s passing in March 2002, the first era of Birding Big Day ended. But in 2003, Bill opened a new era, creating a wider community tradition. Alumni, students, faculty and staff form teams to see just how many species they can find. Bill invites anyone with an interest in birding to e-mail him and join in the fun.

The 26th Birding Big Day was held May 2, 2008. Bill gives a breakdown of the day in his field report. Compare the 2008 and 2007 bird lists and see how many you can identify.

We ask that BBD pledges be honored by June 30, the end of our fiscal year. If you didn't pledge, but would still like to make a gift, just print the pdf pledge form and mail it in or use our secure on-line giving option and specify "Birding Big Day" on the form.

Want to join the BBD mailing list? Send an e-mail to the Alumni Office.
