Obituaries:
Maxine Gerber
Maxine E. Gerber, 96, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2008 after a brief illness. She preceded in death by Curtis E. Gerber, her husband of 55 years. He was the co-founder and owner of Gerber Mfg. Co. until 1966, when they moved to Tampa, FL and began Tampa G. Corp. It was known for the original design of golf cart covers. They were married in 1936 at the First United Church of Nappannee, IN. Her children are daughter, Sally Maxine Gerber Grossnickle (husband William R. Grossnickle) of Clermont, FL and son James Curtis Gerber (wife Patricia Graf Gerber) of Mahwah, NJ. Grandchildren are David R. Grossnickle (wife Guylaine Daoust) of Burlington, VT, Kenneth Grossnickle (wife Tricia Miller) of Lyons, CO, Daniel Curtis Gerber of Mahwah, NJ, and Timothy James Gerber of Mahwah, NJ. Maxine is also survived by four great grandchildren, Corey, Pascale, Cameron and Kayla Grossnickle. Maxine was born August 15, 1911 to Aubern and Ethel Wright of Nappanee, IN. and sister of Harter A. Wright. She was a graduate of Earlam College, BA, in 1933, and of Drexel Institute Library School, BSLS, in 1934. Maxine was a librarian at the West Side Branch in Kalamazoo, MI from 1934-1936. In South Bend she was a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. She served as a YWCA board member, and was active in the Hearing and Speech Aux, Memorial Hospital Aux, and Phi Beta Psi sorority. During World War 2, Maxine worked as a volunteer for the Red Cross Motor Pool.
While living in Tampa, she was a member of Palma Ceia First United Methodist Church, the Symphony Guild, the Tampa Club Newcomers, and TNT Executive club. In 2003 she moved to Superior Residence in Clermont, FL. Maxine was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clermont.

Marjorie Mills Pentecost
Straughn -- Marjorie Edith Mills Pentecost, daughter of LeRoy and Elizabeth Ferris Mills of Straughn, Ind., died peacefully in her sleep at the Waters in New Castle, Ind., on March 19, 2008. Mrs. Pentecost lived for many years on the family farm outside of Straughn where she was born on Oct. 25, 1911. Mrs. Pentecost previously lived in Richmond where she served as church organist for many years for the Church of the Brethren. She was employed for many years at Reid Memorial Hospital and was active in Richmond Church Women's Organization. Mrs. Pentecost lived for many years in Springfield, Ohio, and was church organist for the Church of the Brethren during her time there. Mrs. Pentecost was a member of the White Branch Church of the Brethren. She attended Earlham College and grew up in the Hopewell Quaker Meeting. Her children include: Beatrice Ann Luthringer of Simi Valley, Calif.; Emily Sue Notestein of Gainesville, Fla.; Marvin Carroll Pentecost of New Castle; Melvin Mills Pentecost of Sarasota, Fla.; Kathryn Joy Riggs of Evansville, Ind.
