Obituaries:
Dorothy Pierdos
Dorothy B. Pierdos 85, of Indianapolis, passed away July 2, 2009. Born March 16, 1924 in Indianapolis to Sydney F. and Carol Alberta Metcalf Brown, Dorothy graduated from Warren Central High School in 1942 and attended Earlham College. She married Emil J. Pierdos, who preceded her in death. Dorothy was a charter member of Irvington Friends Church and attended First Friends Church. Among her many passions were the Mud Creek Players and Garden Club, P.E.O., and Sargent Road Association. Dorothy is survived by her children, Patricia A. (Richard) Greene, John R. Pierdos and Kathy (Ray) Vermilio; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Marian Cobine '52, and Marjorie Hadley '44.

Evelyn Smith
EVELYN P. SMITH, 84, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Born Oct. 18, 1924, in Spice-land, Ind., the daughter of Everett and Louise (Willis) Pennington, she worked for Lincoln National Life Insurance Company for six years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Survivors include her children, Earl L. Smith '68 of Chicago, Ill., Elizabeth D. Strawbridge '70 of Charlevoix, Mich., David B. (Elizabeth) Smith and Cynthia (Richard) Malecki, both of Fort Wayne and Timothy A. (Jullia) Smith and Charles P. Smith, of Harbor Springs, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl L. Smith; and daughter, Natalie Marie Smith.
