Vaunita Schwyhart Sherer
Robert Sherer, husband of Vaunita Sherer died on September 04, 2009 in Dayton, Ohio. He was the owner-operator of Sherer's Ice Cream Shop on N. Main Street in Dayton for many years. He is also survived by a daughter Pam and a son Robin.

Virginia Rowlands
Katherine Virginia (Rohrbough) Rowlands, born in Chicago, in July 31, 1926, died peacefully at home on July 11, 2009 in Kirkland, Washington with family and friends near. She is survived by children John (Jack) Rowland, Bronwen Rowlands, and Kathy (Kate) Hayes; grandchildren Erin Wright, Lindsay Rowlands and Sarah Rowlands; great grandchildren Kylie and Ashlyn Wright. Her great granddaughters loved to visit her - she would play the piano and they would dance! She loved corresponding with her Earlham friends. We all miss her. She is also survived by nephew's Christopher Joyner '75 and Douglas Mac Millan '83.

Robert Wixom
Robert "Bob" Llewellyn Wixom, 85, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at University Hospital of chronic lung illness. He had happily celebrated his 85th birthday two days before, with his wife, sister, two sons, their spouses and his grandchildren. Bob was born to Clinton and Beatrice Wixom in Philadelphia, on July 6, 1924, and grew up in a family with deep Quaker roots. Educated at Oakwood Friends School and Earlham College he was a conscientious objector in World War II, first in the Civilian Public Service, where he worked as a fire fighter in the Smoky Mountains and then volunteered for medical experiments on the effect of drugs on malaria in Boston. After refusing to register for the draft later he spent a year in prison, but received a presidential pardon exonerating him. He was active in school desegregation and tutored Earnest Green, one of nine to first integrate Little Rock schools. He received a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Illinois in 1952 and went on to teach and do research in that field at the medical schools of the Universities of Arkansas and Missouri. He served on the Graduate Faculty Senate of MU for 23 years, three as chairman, biological sciences sector; co-initiated and served on the MU Environmental Council; and received three awards for excellence in teaching. His first love was for the students, with whom he planned and carried out trips to the U.N. in New York City. After retiring from MU in 1992 as professor emeritus, department of biochemistry, he continued writing, co-authoring a book on environmental science and two longer books detailing the research beginnings, science and uses of chromatography. In 2003 he was recognized by Earlham College with its Outstanding Alumni Award. Bob Wixom was also very dedicated to his deep religious faith. He was a founding member of Columbia Friends Meeting and was active in Illinois Yearly Meeting, where he was presiding dlerk in 1971 to 1974 and served on many committees. Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia M. Wixom; and two sons, David and wife Yvonne and their two children, Jonathan and Caryn '11, and Richard and wife Lois and their children Wm. David, Cristian and Andrew.

Peter J. Rossi
Peter J. Rossi, age 91, of Richmond, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Reid Hospital. Born Sept. 8, 1917, in New York City, N.Y., to John and Marie Castelli Rossi, he was a resident of Richmond since 1941. Peter was a 1936 graduate of Metuchen New Jersey High School and 1947 graduate of Earlham College. He was a World War II Army veteran. Peter retired from Star Bank in 1984. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 65, Harry Ray Post, and the Richmond Lions Club. Peter was an avid duplicate bridge player.
Survivors include his wife, Jean F. Rossi, to whom he was married May 31, 1941; son, Thomas I. Rossi and wife Leslie of Binghamton, N.Y.; granddaughter, Jessica Rossi of Binghamton, N.Y.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rose Rossi and brother, James Rossi. A memorial service for Peter J. Rossi will be a 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009, in the Community Room at Friends Fellowship Community, 2030 Chester Blvd., Richmond, with Rev. David Layman officiating.

Richard Joseph Brown
Dr. Richard Joseph Brown, 86, of Kokomo, died Sunday, May 31, 2009. Born Dec. 14, 1922, in Richmond to Sherman and Lois Johnson Brown, the Army and Air Force veteran was a physician and surgeon for 37 years and had practiced at Reid Hospital. Survivors: wife, Royla; children, Richard Brown, Patricia Foster-Brown, David Brown, Mary Brown, Andrea Williams, Cheri Brown.
