"A group of your classmates have been working on a great weekend get-to-gether during Homecoming weekend--so start your planning now to attend. A number of people had raised the issue of whether or not the class was making any plans--and you already have received your first letter in response to those queries. YES--we do plan to have a great reunion! Yes-- we all do plan to stay at LEES INN! YES--we want you to make your own plans now to be in Richmond--- October 23-25".

Last Fall, three classmates and their spouses, enjoyed a 10 day cruise visiting Aruba, Costa Rica, Columbia, Panama--and Jamaica. Bob and Ida Fowler, Murray and Sylvia Mills '56 and, Herb and Molly Gardner departed Port Everglades aboard the Island Princess. Also joining in the fun were "wanna be 54ers" Betty and Bill Loucks from the class of '55. Athletic skills of all appear to have diminished somewhat since leaving EC--but a lot more books were read!

Walter Schwegman
Walter J. Schwegman 8/28/32 - 2/26/08 Walter succumbed to his thirty-year struggle with multiple sclerosis on Tuesday morning. He was born in Richmond, IN, graduated from Earlham College in 1954, and was drafted into the army from 1955 to 1957. He began his 25-yr career at GE in 1955 in Cincinatti, OH where he met and married his wife, Janet. In 1966 he moved to San Jose working in the GE Nuclear Energy Division from where he retired in 1980. In preparation for his next career in finance he received an MBA from San Jose State in 1978 and became a Certified Financial Planner in 1983. His family and friends will miss his sharp wit, wry sense of humor, charming smile, and endearing chuckle. Walter loved growing his tomatoes, fruit trees, recording music CDs for his friends, and baking homemade bread that warmed the hearts of those with whom he shared. He is survived by his wife Janet of 52 years, and his daughters Karen Hanks of Reno and Emily Risberg of Palo Alto. He joins his son, Eric, who died of leukemia in 1973. His loving family includes his sons-in-law, Joe Hanks and Jeff Risberg, and his grandchildren, Brandon and Lauren Risberg. There will be no funeral service because Walter donated his body to the advancement of science through the Anatomy Gifts Registry.
