Our gratitude goes to Neil '65 and Catherine Borman for their generous support of Earlham's science education program as detailed in the recent "Purpose and Passion" brochure. You make us proud, Neil! I'm also impressed every year by the significant financial support exhibited by the faculty. It's time to mark your 2010 calendar with the dates of our 45th (can that really be right?) class reunion: October 22 - 24, 2010. Do plan to attend; the more the merrier!

Sam Wentworth
Sam Wentworth continues to do [more than] fulltime work in diabetes, particularly with teenagers. He also continues to work in Russia some each year, and he and Sondra host teens from Eastern Europe each summer. While they have witnessed remarkable improvements in Moscow and St. Petersburg in recent years, they are sadly aware of a high level of ethnic and international hate in the world. One hopes progress can be made to change this.

Bob and Mary Beth Schnur Metcalf
Bob and Mary Beth Schnur Metcalf have been enjoying a long distance relationship with their first grandchild who lives in Washington, D.C. So far from Sacramento! Bob has also had a lot of wonderful experiences providing workshops on water testing and water pasteurization using the solar cooker, mostly in Kenya, and most recently under the auspices of the East Africa UN-Habitat group. Last year brought deep sorrow to Mary Beth whose sister died from a brain tumor.

Visitors to Portland in recent months have included Randy Beck Thurman and Ann Ohlrogge Johnson '67, making for some happy times. In addition, Tom Mullen ’56 and faculty 1966-1997 have been doing some visiting ministry at Reedwood Friends Church. Not surprisingly, he’s still the same wise, caring and funny man. In March, Portland area alums also had the opportunity to meet Gail Clark , Director of Alumni Relations and Mic Jackson, Professor of Mathematics, who heads the college’s sustainability efforts and his wife Sandy Jackson, secretary in the Psychology Deptartment.
