Class Notes:
Ginny Hoagland
Ginny Hoagland had wanted to come to our reunion, but just before Christmas 2008, she was laid off from her job as an occupational therapist with a home care company. She has been on interviews, but nothing has materialized yet, and thanks President Obama for extending the unemployment benefit and the COBRA insurance premium reduction! She could use some words of encouragement from her Earlham friends and "would love to hear what happened at the reunion! Since I wasn't able to make it, I wasn't able to share with everyone. I do hope that those who attended will write about their experiences."

Harriet McCurdy
Harriet McCurdy writes from Rabat, Morocco where she has been teaching biology and more at a small American school for the past seven years. She writes: "Now I am preparing for a move to Shanghai to a very large American school, but I will still be teaching biology, and I am delighted to pursue teaching as well as learning. Secondary education always morphs and changes--online courses and online textbooks, and I hope to continue teaching for a while. The diversity of my students adds spice to my classes. Yet, I live a quiet, routine life with lessons to plan and papers to mark. Walking to school each day is a joy, as is shopping in the open market for vegetables, meat and flowers on the weekend. Never one to learn languages with ease, I mumble along in the local Arabic, but always seem to manage. Travel is one of my diversions, and I saw 2009 begin from a tent in the desert north of Timbuktu. Mali was a fascinating place to travel with a small tour that mixed trekking with time on a boat in the Niger River and a camel in the desert. Closer to home, I often hike in the various mountains that divide up Morocco, and I can go birding at stops on the migration route that works its way down the coast. No complaints there. Really, no complaints at all. I would enjoy hearing from classmates.

Bruce McAtee
Bruce McAtee, who kept us in laughter throughout our reunion weekend, wrote in. As most everyone, I was very involved in door to door campaigning for Obama. In this same year, I was serving as President of the Big Brother Big Sisters Board of Directors for Fairfield County. This led to a discussion with the City Council President who was serving as the VP on this same board. As a fellow democrat, he and I engaged in conversations over national and local issues. It lead him to ask me to run for City Council in Ward 3. After much angst, I agreed and so I will be spending my money and that of donors as well as time campaigning. Ram and Gail Coates, Bill and Diana Hahn, Rick and Paula Briggs , and Nancy and I went to Muskogee, Oklahoma to celebrate the marriage of Jeff Hiller to Hildegard (Jeff attended one year @ Earlham) and we have all stayed in touch.

Anne LaMar Hibbert
Anne LaMar Hibbert wrote, since July 2004 I have been working part time as the Director of Religious Education (D.R.E.) at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Amherst, NY (near Buffalo). I'm active with various activities at the Amherst Senior Center and enjoy playing the recorder with two groups. Still enjoy birding, gardening, hiking, bicycling, and anything to do with the outdoors. Our 40th reunion will always be a special memory for me. Thanks to Sally Fleming, all the "Marmonites" made it, and now have an email distribution list to keep in touch. Any Earlhamite passing through Western New York is welcome to get in touch.

Lucky Robinson
The class of 68 had a magnificent reunion weekend. With the largest class returning of all classes, we laughed, cried, shared, talked and talked, and talked. There were many highlights, in addition to seeing how gorgeous and handsome we all are in our early sixties. One was having time with Landrum Bolling, who is now 95 and quicker in mind and body than most of us. Another was an evening with Gerry and Barb Bakker, Lincoln and Barbara Blake, Len and Mary Jo Clark, and Joe and Billye Elmore '84 who helped us all remember what it was like not only to be students in the sixties, and teach students in the sixties, but to be young professionals/married couples/parents during those years. It was an evening none of us will soon forget. The best attendance award went to the Marmon House Gang, all of whom came to the reunion. The Scandinavian Group of 1966 came in second, with 15 returning, plus the Bakkers. Lets all put our 45th on our calendars now!
