It was great to see everyone at our 35th reunion! I hope even more will join us for our 40th reunion. I continue to work in Kentucky State government in the area of women's substance abuse services. Currently I am working with local providers across Kentucky to provide substance abuse prevention services to pregnant women. My husband Bob and I still live in Lexington. We enjoy music, dancing and traveling. Bob plays guitar and is in a rock band called "Nightcrawler".

Susan Ray Jackson
I am still living in the midcoast area of beautiful Maine, married four years to Larry Jackson, and working as the Director of Instruction for a local school district. Our district, which takes in five towns and is more than 40 miles from north to south is incredibly poor compared to the districts I worked for in Indiana. (Our elementary teachers, for example, have textbooks only in the area of math and have to construct their own resources for everything else!) We find ourselves, like many others I am sure, in that sandwich generation caring for aging, ill parents as well as extending a helping hand to Larry's children who have been affected by the downturn in the economy. I would greatly enjoying hearing from Earlham friends! Home email:

George Campbell
George Campbell and Mary Barkalow '75 enjoyed seeing everyone at the '74 reunion. George writes: At our reunion someone remarked that one of the main contributions of the Earlham experience was that it honed our ability to think for ourselves whether or not we subsequently pursued our respective areas of concentrated study. Although my degree from Earlham was in Biology I ended up going to photography school in Boston and worked in the area of architectural photography for 22 years. A couple of years ago I finished a masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University. Right after graduating I spent the entire summer writing a chapter for the book Creativity & Madness: Psychological Studies of Art and Artists volume 2 ( ©2009, AIMED Press.com). This experientially-based chapter talks about my Kundalini Awakening and explores the ways that creativity, spirituality and psychological process interface via the mind-body continuum. If you have an interest in the ways that the creative process fosters resilience in the face of adverse circumstances this book may be worth your while. In any case I'm happy to provide a PDF file of my chapter via email attachment. E-mail:

I had a terrific time attending our 35th reunion "virtually" from my home in Camarillo, California. Via the magic of cyberspace, I had a wonderful conversation with classmates during the class dinner at Avis Stewart's house. Thank you to Barbara Wilkins Pless for making her lap top available and for being our Skype "emcee" during our conversation. A special thanks goes to Carol Sauers Stange and Susan Ray Jackson for all their help in planning and promoting the 35th reunion. As your Class Chair, it has been a treat for me to reconnect with many of you by e-mail and phone and to hear about the purposeful lives you are leading, carrying on the Earlham values. Keep sending your Class Notes my way!

Barry Mills
Greetings from the rolling Palouse wheatfields of Eastern Washington. Paulie and I enjoy our six aging horses, six cats, two birds, and a gigantic St. Bernard, Bayley. I have been taking my belated field term with regular visits to my mother who lives in Prague. And am learning Czech, slowly. I have recently discovered mathematics ?!?!, and am taking the certification program at U. of Montana, in hopes of “retiring” to be a math teacher (wish me luck & effort). In reflecting on Earlham, I find that the value of my time at Earlham doesn’t necessarily appear on my transcript, but in the people I was graced to know, truly. Greetings, especially, to my High Uinta Wilderness Pre-termates, it is the most treasured time I have of my Earlham experience. A memory which grows all the more dear and vivid with the advancing years. I’d honor contacts from fellow E-sibs. ![]()

I enjoyed our 35th reunion. I had forgotten how beautiful the campus is at the peak of foliage season. I am a screenwriter knocking on the doors of Hollywood. I have a screenplay that is ready to be turned into a film. My husband, Alex, is a mechanical engineer in high tech. Our daughters? Kirsten is working for World Relief and is currently living in Cambodia making videos of their work. Debbi is in L.A. getting an MFA in writing for television.

I continue to own and operate my own CPA practice in Northwest and North central Ohio. I serve clients throughout the State of Ohio, and I also serve clients in the Kansas City, Missouri area, too. Moreover, I now offer financial consulting to supplement my accounting and tax practice. I continue to jog and exercise as often as possible. Whenever time permits, I enjoy attending major sports events, concerts, and lectures.

Barb and I continue to create resources (for example, UpToParents.org) and resolution processes (for example, cooperative systems of family law) to assist families in divorce and other crises. One of our more gratifying recent experiences was working with the Wayne County judges and attorneys to establish an uncommonly progressive family law system, one emphasizing peaceful cooperation over litigation. I have little doubt that the success was due to the considerable number of peace-minded Earlham alumni in the local bar. Our blended family (including five children and eight grandchildren) is doing well.

David Hyde
"I have been a medical doctor since 1980, the same year Susan Elizabeth Moon and I were married. We have lived here in my hometown of Yellow Springs, Ohio ever since 1989. We have four children; Ed, 25; James, 23; Mary, 21, and Laura, 18. Ed is an Earlham graduate like us '06. He is now in his final year at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. James went to Loyola in Chicago where he continues to reside. Mary is half-way through Otterbein College (outside Columbus, Ohio). Laura will start at Ohio University next month. Then we will be truly empty-nesters." In addition to visiting his son when Ed was an EC student, David has returned to Earlham many times to attend reunions, Big May Days, and Ohio Valley Yearly Meeting. He enjoyed seeing Landrum Bolling at the dedication of the new center named for our past president. David is a "fellow" of the American Academy of Family Physicians and is friends with Bob Graham '65, the Executive Vice-President of the AAFP. In 2003, David ran in the annual alumni cross-country campus run that is organized by Bob. David looks forward to seeing classmates at our 35th reunion.

Steve Harlan-Marks
Pat Harlan-Marks and I celebrated 35 years of post-Earlham life together this July 6th. We are still living in Minneapolis. A great place to live, and to visit I might add. I continue to teach English and to be a part-time singer/songwriter. Anyone interested in hearing tracks from "House of Cards," my latest CD, may listen at myspace.com/steveharlanmarks.

Lewis Holman
Lewis Holman attended this year's Earlham commencement ceremony to proudly watch his son graduate. He attended his other son's wedding just two weeks later. Lewis writes from his home in Maine:
I doubt that I'll make it to our reunion cause it's hard to fathom two trips to Earlham in one year but I'm sure it'll be a good time. I'm in frequent touch with Aaron Shapiro and Lock Kiermaier '75. People can hear Lock on the radio online on Monday nights at http://www.wrfr.org.

Janet Copeland
Janet enjoyed reading the nostalgic invitation to our 35 year class reunion but sends her regrets. Janet writes: I enjoyed reading/remembering many of the events that occurred while we were there. My daughter is getting married that weekend so I will unfortunately not be able to attend. I'm sure it will be alot of fun. My best to my classmates of '74. Just an update on me: I'm living with my husband Tom in Coral Gables, Florida enjoying tropical gardening, playing my violin in quartets and a community orchestra, studying Spanish (a must for down here), and traveling while supporting these hobbies working part time as a speech-language pathologist for infants and toddlers.
