I'm sorry I wasn't able to attend the 20th reunion, but October was a busy month for me. I was named the Dean of Curriculum and Assessment at Columbia College and my wife and I went to China to pick up our adopted daughter Katherine AiLi.

Marcia "Amber" Conner
Imagine the surprise when Marcia "Amber" Conner and April Bennett '96, who had been attending playgroup together with their then 2-year old sons weekly since the boys were crawling, realized that both of them had gone to Earlham. One said something about consensus, which lead to a conversation about Quakerism, and quickly enough they were speechless realizing the coincidence. After reminiscing about the Heart, their wilderness program and terms abroad, the revelation didn't seem so surprising after all. No wonder they instantly felt like they knew one another when they had met. Each woman lives with husband and young son in a rural community in Central Virginia and welcomes hearing from classmates and friends.

Hi, I wanted to thank everyone for coming to our reunion, it was a fantastic weekend! Everyone had a great time. I would also like to thank Gail, George, Anne, and Joe for all of their hard work putting together the festivities. Somehow I was elected to be a class chair and take Noel's spot. She has had the job for 20 years and wanted a break. I am honored to do this. I wanted to give an update of my life. I have lived in and around Chicago for the last 17 years. I helped my wife get her PHD from Northwestern, worked on my MBA from De Paul, had two great kids Alex 13, Wyatt 11, lost all of my money working for an internet startup in 1996, started and run an investment advisory company and in our spare time we are building a property management firm and play with our dog Thor. I wanted to mention our wonderful Blog that Mary Mathews has created for our class it is http://www.earlham87.blogspot.com, as well as our yahoo groups EC1987@yahoogroups.com Please stop in and tell us how you are doing. If I can be of service to anyone please write. I would also like to see if in the next 5 years we can endow a scholarship for our class as our 25th gift to the college, please send me your thoughts. I hope to see everyone at our 25th in 2012. If anyone is ever in Chicago, you are welcome to stay.

Greetings class of '87- Wow! What an amazingly fun time we had at our 20th reunion in October! A huge thanks to those who helped organize the weekend and to everyone who made the effort to get to Richmond. If you weren't there, we missed you! I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with folks - classmates and faculty- and seeing our beautiful college campus. And we had a terrific turnout! Can you believe more than 50 of us attended our class dinner!? For those of you who were able to be there, you already know the exciting news that Rohin has agreed to take over my "co-class chairship" and serve as co-class chair for (at least) the next twenty years. Thank you Rohin! And I'm already looking forward to our reunion in 2012.

I wish I could have made it to our class reunion in October. That weekend, our daughter, Anna, celebrated her 10th birthday, and my in-laws came from Ohio to help us celebrate. My husband, Andy, and I continue to be amazed at how fast Anna is growing. It is hard to believe she is already learning about blood cells and the heart and lungs in science class this year. She seems so much smarter than I was at age 10. She loves the 5th grade, her dance classes and all of her pets. At the moment, we have a dog, two rabbits, a hamster and a new kitten. Andy teases Anna that we should open a petting zoo. We still love living in Maine. It is so beautiful here -- not far from the ocean and Acadia National Park. We are greatly enjoying an unusually warm fall. My deteriorating arthritic body has prevented me from continuing my work in research at the Jackson Laboratory. But, I am having a wonderful time being a stay-at-home mom and wife. I would love to hear from classmates. My e-mail address has changed now that I'm not working at the lab ![]()

I'm enjoying Iowa City, after many years in the Northwest. Just emerging from a busy era of small children, renovating a 100 year old house and working! These days I work as a social worker for the school district. The schedule is perfect and an elementary school is a wholesome place to spend time. Amazing to think of those years 20 years ago when we could focus on Pablo Neruda, world politics, and the next foreign adventure! Hope to see you at the reunion!
