Class Notes:

Thomas Marzahl
Thomas Marzahl has been soaking up history and the arts in Berlin, and eating his way through the many restaurants and cafes across the German capital. He got married in Berlin in July to Véronique Lemire during a celebration of music, food and conviviality featuring guests from more than half a dozen countries. Reliable sources report that the newlyweds moved from the dance floor to the kitchen at 2 a.m. on their wedding night to help wash dishes. House guests are always welcome!

Jamie Baker
2008 was certainly a punch in the gut, given the well-chronicled pressures in the financial services sector. But thankfully I'm with JP Morgan, I managed to steal a few quality days in Rio with Paul Durr and Rick Russell, and my family is happy and healthy in New York. For those curious how much hair has been lost or weight has been gained by this particular EC grad, check out: http://wwwamywattbaker.com. Here's to a prosperous 2009.

Lauren Keach Lessing
Lauren, Uri '94 and Gabe are happy and eagerly awaiting the return of warm weather in Maine. Lauren, who finally finished her Ph.D. in 2006, is a curator at the Colby College Museum of Art--a dream job. Uri is a writer and fifth grade teacher. Our son Gabe, a third grader, will be going off to Friends Camp for the first time this summer. Through the wonders of Facebook we've reconnected with many old Earlham friends and would love to hear from others.

Obituaries

James Andrew Lacey
James Andrew Lacey, age 41, of Richmond, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, in a car accident while doing a favor for his parents. Our beloved and loving son and brother, he was a man of principle; a gentle, generous man and a staunch, dependable friend to many, always ready to help others in the most practical ways. He knew how to care for others. James had a great capacity for happiness and brought happiness to others, and he knew how to forgive hurts. His wit was quick and always kind. We cherished his company and will cherish his memory all our lives. Born June 4, 1968, in Richmond to Paul A. and Margaret A. Smith Lacey '58, he was a lifelong Quaker and resident of Richmond. James was a 1985 graduate of Richmond High School and a 1990 graduate of Earlham College. He is survived by his parents; brother, Patrick A. Lacey '88 of New York; sister, Mary Lacey '83 and her husband Tony Bohnert of Richmond; aunts; uncles; cousins; and many friends. James was a great lover of animals and our dog, Fang, and cat, Cleo, were also a part of his family. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. A memorial service after the manner of Friends will be held at Clear Creek Meeting later this summer. The time and date will be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to Earlham College, Office of Alumni & Development, Drawer 193, 801 National Road W., Richmond, IN 47374-4095; or Elizabeth Thompson Scholarship Fund, Richmond High School c/o Ronda Christopher, 380 Hub Etchison Parkway, Richmond, IN 47374.
