My 15+ year update: grad school at Princeton, then several years in Vermont. I'm now in Michigan. Partner Binney just received tenure at Kalamazoo College. Our kids are Freya (4) and Otto (9), who are, of course, everything to me. I've recently embarked on a possibly quixotic effort advocating early childhood literacy. I've published a book called "Native Reading: How to Teach Your Child to Read, Easily and Naturally, Before the Age of Three" as part of that effort. The book is, I hope, the sort of good spin-off -- a practical application of neuroscience theory that helps parents and children -- that can result when a computational biologist becomes a stay-at-home parent for several years. (I'm also convinced, by the way, that I never would have written the book if I hadn't had Peter Suber as a professor at Earlham.) Anyone curious can read several chapters of the book online at: http://www.nativereading.com. You can also reach me
with questions, criticisms
or just to say "hey."

We will be traveling in the US from July until mid August, probably making time to see friends in New York, Boston, Virginia, New Mexico and Los Angeles while we visit family. So email me if you'll be around, or you want to catch up by phone.

I have moved - no, abandoned my home - in New York City for open skies and mountain ranges! It has been the worst best experience of my life. Except of course for my 4 years at Earlham!

Tom Mennerick
Tom Mennerick was recently awarded The Employee of the Year Award for 2007 from Lutheran Family and Children Services of Missouri. "Tom eagerly agreed to become a member of the Diversity Committee for the agency when it first started in 2004. He has been an intricate part of the committee from actively planning and implementing the activities to help foster and sustain diversity throughout the organization. He has volunteered to write the weekly diversity news letter which keeps the importance of diversity initiatives alive. Tom has a genuine passion for equality of all of whom not only work at LFCS but also those that receive services at LFCS."

Damon and I are buying a house! We'll have a spare bedroom, so come on up to Juneau and visit. I'm still writing regulations for the State of Alaska, Dept. of Environmental Conservation, but I moved back to the Division of Air Quality, Permitting section in 2005. Damon's been working working for the Alaska State Library, Historical Collections since 2005, scanning, restoring, and posting historical photos, documents, and other media for on-line access at Alaska's Digital Archives.

We are still in the Boston area. In July 2005 we welcomed Emanuel "Manny" Tarlin into the family. Everyone is, thankfully, healthy and well. I am still a school counselor in the Cambridge Public Schools, but am thinking about becoming a fifth grade teacher. Sam (Tarlin '91) is now a stay-at-home dad and part-time book buyer where he managed for ten years until leaving to stay home. We love to connect with Earlhamites.

I'd like to announce my marriage to Christian Domball in Strasbourg, France on November 18, 2006 and the birth of our daughter, Kate Hannah Domball, on August 24, 2007 (8 lbs 6 oz, 19 inches). At the moment of writing, Katie will be 3 months old in a few days, and she already has a huge personality. She is very communicative, smiles a lot, cries loudly when she wants something and seems to be very determined. She often sleeps through the whole night without waking up, giving us all much needed rest. I am loving motherhood and my life with my new husband. I continue to work at the Council of Europe as a Publications Assistant, but right now am enjoying an extended maternity leave.
