We saw Landrum Bolling's film, "Searching for Peace in the Middle East," and heard from him about current peace topics. Good food and fellowship! Learning and Teaching About Public Policy at Earlham with Doug Bennett, President of Earlham College

Beautiful weather, with a bit of rain, and food accompanied a great night in Seattle. We heard from President Doug Bennett about the course he teaches on Public Policy, as well as he took questions about the class and the College. We dined on food served by Tulio Restaurant. A Day of Pottery and Pizza
at Lillstreet Art Center
Earlhamites, parents, and friends of the College gathered at Lillstreet Art Center for a hands-on workshop with Emily Murphy '99. Each participant learned hand building techniques and created his or her own mug or vase and also shared pizza! A great time was had by everyone who attended and hopes of having another event soon were brewing! We hope you will join us next time we are in Chicago!

The beautiful melodies of the Earlham College Concert Choir greeted alumni, parents, and friends of the College during the Concert Choirs East Coast Tour. The Choir sang pieces from a variety of different cultures and languages. A huge thank you to those who helped make the tour a success.

Earlham President Doug Bennett made three stops on the west coast, visiting with alumni and parents in San Diego, Pasadena and San Francisco, California. Doug shared information about a public policy course he teaches in which he engages students in learning to think about policy issues, such as poverty and health care. A discussion also took place about Earlham today. Many thanks to our volunteers for helping organize these events!

Earlham alumni, parents and friends had a delightful time connecting over dinner at an authentic New England grist mill, cider mill and saw mill built in 1749, Cobb's Mill Inn. We dined in The Country Store and had a discussion with President Doug Bennett about how he engages students in learning to think about policy issues, such as poverty and health care. A discussion also took place about the Earlham of today. We hope you will consider making the trip to New York City for the 2008 East Coast Choir Tour stop on January 7!

Wine Tasting and Dinner

A terrific time was had by all at Cascade Wine Co. Owner Jim Collis and his colleagues, Phil and Scott, educated us about wines made in the Yakima Valley and surrounding areas, which we also enjoyed tasting. Earlhamites gathered again later at El Rincon Mexican Restaurant for a spicey dinner and to hear an update from campus. We look forward to seeing you again in Portland and Seattle this spring!

Charles '61 and Carolyn Anderson Haines '61

Alumni and friends enjoyed a casual gathering in the beautiful home and gardens of Charlie '61 and Carolyn Anderson Haines '61. An update on summer events and projects was given and there was discussion about admissions and the incoming Class of 2011. This first-ever gathering in the Rochester area was such a success, we plan to make it an annual event! See you next year!

Whale Watching and a Brown Bag lunch

Humpback and Finback whales greeted Earlhamites on our whale watching trip. We were even fortunate enough to see several whale calves swimming with their parents. It was an enjoyable time with friends and great weather. Join us next time we are in the Boston/New England area!

An Evening at New York City's 15-Minute Play Festival and Discussion at Rosie O'Grady's
If you weren't with us on April 28, you missed a great show at the American Globe Theatre. Earlhamites packed the 90 seat theatre to support our very own Earlhamite Editor and Writer, Jonathan Graham; Director, Kefah Crowley '05; Actor, Adam Hardin '05; and Actor, Liz Lord '01 in the play The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectation. All were smiles and excited to get together at the reception afterwards. Hope you will join us next time we are in your area!

Tour Arab American National Museum

Alumni, Parents, and Friends gathered for a day filled with fun. A tour of the new Arab American National Museum provided a great informal get-together, with a lunch at a local Lebanese restaurant that followed. Gospel Revelations East Coast Spring Tour

The Gospel Revelations Choir had an amazing East Coast Tour, complete with snow! Their visits to New York, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia brought large crowds of alumni, parents, and friends. Look for their next tour, in March 2009.

Lawyer turned professional photographer and Earlham's Artist-in-Residence, Walt Bistline, exhibited his work at Cincinnati's Pendleton Art Center February 23-31. Walt's photos spanned the spectrum of traditional black and white prints to color photos digitally printed on larger scale paper. Walt shared a lecture about his transformation from "Texas Super Lawyer" to professional photographer and his journey to Earlham.

Sunny weather and "peace"-ful skies welcomed Landrum Bolling to the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice on the campus of the University of San Diego. Many Earlham alumni and friends of the Institute joined in an evening of dialogue about the Middle East Peace controversy. A Chat about the London program with
Professors of History Randall and Alice Shrock
Snow and chilling temperatures could not stop the 30 alumni , parents, and friends from gathering at Elephant and Castle Pub and Restaurant. We had a great meal of fish and chips and got an update from the College. Randall and Alice Shrock shared loads of information about the London program as well information on study abroad programs in general. We hope to be in Chicago again soon! Cheers!

Balmy weather greeted us in St. Louis as we headed to eat at Cicero's Italian Restaurant. 24 alumni, friends and a few children gathered to enjoy a night of fun appetizers and pizza shared family style. Contemporary Clay: Japanese Ceramics for the New Century

Halsey '70 and Alice Henderson North '69 are principal lenders to the Japan Society exhibition CONTEMPORARY CLAY: Japanese Ceramics for the New Century which continues through January 27, 2007. Dick Wood, President of Japan Society and President Emeritus of Earlham, and Nelson Bingham, Earlham's Provost and Professor of Psychology, joined Halsey and Alice for a special talk and viewing of the exhibition for an event for Earlham alumni, parents and friends in the northeast. Halsey and Alice, recipients of the Alumni Association's first Outstanding Alumni Award in 1985, shared how their experiences and special people from their days as Earlham students, influenced their love of Japanese ceramics and culture. Nelson shared the goings on of current Earlham programming in Japan and shared other exciting news from the campus.

Earlhamite gathering at The Berkeley Monthly Meeting of Friends Meetinghouse
PAGS alumni, Friends of PAGS and PAGS faculty and many current PAGS majors gathered for a day-long West Coast Reunion of The Peace and Global Studies Alum Collective of Earlham (PACE). Reports were heard about the World Social Forum, the May Term to Rosario, Argentina and the trip to Palestine and Israel with Tony Bing. Joel Fischer '90 was honored as the latest recipient of the Howard Richards Ethical Construction Award for carrying peace values beyond Earlham and into the workforce. Friends shared in song, poetry and discussions during an open mic session which wrapped the day's fesitivities.

Portland Timbers Soccer Club
104° temperatures and a higher humidity count could not keep our Oregonians from a soccer match (football for all of you sports lovers). 19 friends gathered to enjoy the Portland Timbers take on the Seattle Sounders. The real excitement came from running into many other Earlhamites who were not part of our group. The Sounders defeated the Timbers, but did not defeat the GREAT time had by all! Catch us the next time we are in Portland!
