The plan for new facilities in the arts was developed by BOORA architects, a Portland, Oregon-based firm with extensive experience in the arts and higher education, and a passionate commitment to simple, beautiful, sustainable and human-focused design. The College will pursue LEED certification and follow best practices for sustainability in the design of this facility.

The plan calls for creation of a visual and performing arts building in the south of campus. The project claims a definitive central home for the arts at Earlham, transforms the south campus, and serves as an invitation and an inspiration to every member of the community.

Features include significantly updated, upgraded and expanded facilities and resources for every program in the arts:

  • In the visual arts: separate studio spaces for photography, metals, ceramics, painting and drawing, and weaving, each wired for multi-media presentation; and high-quality storage and handling space for the College’s art collection.
  • In music: a 480-seat performance and rehearsal venue with a flat floor and moveable tiered seating; rehearsal rooms for jazz and percussion; recording and editing facilities for electronic music; and individual practice rooms.
  • In theatre: a new black box performance space, an essential laboratory for every aspect of performance.
