At the Inauguration, Board chair Debbie Hull announced that the Trustees had reached "enthusiastic consensus" to move ahead with buildings for the fine arts as well as the sciences.
The college will break ground in May for the science building, and construction of the arts building could begin as early as September 2012.
Earlham's new mascot has been supporting athletes since Homecoming, but its name has not yet been decided. After broad consultation, four names are in contention: Quincy, Oatis, Big Earl and Barnabus.

More than 30 students volunteer each week at Rose City Coffee Co-Operative to create community through coffee. The shop has been gaining momentum on campus since it opened in August. Rose City is completely student run and is guided by Quaker processes, including consensus. It is also non-hierarchical, which means there are no bosses.
Earlham's Alumni Council presented Outstanding Alumni Awards to Charles Matthews' 50, Bill Buskirk '66, and Rebecca Voelkel '91 during Homecoming Weekend. Former men's basketball coach Del Harris was also honored for his distinguished service to the College.
