Mark and Marjorie '44 HadleyAs of April 2012 we became permanent residents of Roseburg, Ore. Our son Neal and his wife E. Lee Hadley invited us to occupy their double-wide mobile home. It is adjacent to their newly built two-story house located in the rolling hills 15 miles west of downtown Roseburg and near the historic town of Lookingglass. Neal and E. Lee own 11 acres covered with pine, fir, madrone as well as the orchard of apple, peach, plum cherry trees. We take the half mile walk to the property line and up the hill home. We both give daily thanks for our good health and family… On Sundays we attend the Roseburg Preparative Meeting (under the care of Eugene, Ore. Meeting) which alternates meetings at members' homes. This is such a friendly and welcoming community that we felt right at home from the beginning. Once a month the residents of this valley gather here for "soup night". E. Lee make a huge pot of delicious soup, others bring the rolls, salad, dessert, etc. Sharing news of each other gives lively discussions. We invite friends traveling west to stop for a visit. Eldon Kronewitter I have been doing fairly well, but have had some ups and downs. I spent a week in the hospital about five weeks ago with a terrible case of dizziness. I still live in the independent living section of this retirement community but have moved into a smaller apartment. I continue to miss Gloria a great deal but try to keep busy and stay in close contact with nieces and nephews doing things and visiting. We visit my niece and her husband in Mishawaka a lot and they are ready to help me out with whatever I need. I have plenty of support and often it seems maybe more help than I want. My niece took me to Derby Weekend where I have lots of friends from my two years in the Kentucky state health department. We had given up our reserved seat tickets about 10 years ago, but Gloria and I still went down on derby weekends to be with our friends and the group. There only four of us left now and we decided to get together this year for the probably last time. Hope all is well with all of you and remember stay well and stay happy.(Posted May 16, 2013)

Jeanette BakerHello to all our classmates of '53. I hope to make it to our 60th! in October 2013. To catch up on what I've been doing since our 50th, I've come on the board of H.E. Lane Center for Positive Change, a re-entry program for prisoners who are released from prison without funds, a job, or a place to live. Some have additional problems which Rev. H.E. Lane tries to heal also. Networking with other social agencies has been very educational for me. It's an inspiring feeling to know I have a hand in helping someone get a new start in life. I'm also on the board of Interfaith Action of Evanston. We've brought a food truck to a spot in Evanston where people can come and get fresh food free. The organization also houses a shelter where they can get warm during the day and sleep during the night. My life is rounded out with great children in our Friend's Meeting's first day school. This term I am not teaching so that gives me time to travel with Clyde when he gives a speech on geotechnical engineering for tall buildings. We went to Panama in April, and June we took our whole family (of 14) on a caribbean cruise for a week. Each year is still full of surprises and valuable learning and experiences. We are glad a small group of Earlhamites still meet for lunch someplace in Indiana once a year and we visit some Earlhamites as we travel to Florida each February or March. Looking forward to seeing more of you at Earlham for our 60 in 2013. We send our best to you all.(Posted November 14, 2012)

Eugene OgleI was back on campus on Homecoming weekend 2012 to attend the Alumni Council meeting. The highlight of the meeting was a reception with junior and senior students when we exchange information about our time at Earlham and our job experience, and listen to their plans for the coming years. It is always exciting and impressive to hear about their plans for further school, overseas experiences and work experience along with their classes. The campus is beautiful, there are new buildings with a new president and everyone is busy. I spoke to John Young, our class chair, briefly. My visits (twice a year as long as I want to keep coming) are always an uplift. I returned home and received a pacemaker. (Hopefully, not related to my Earlham visit.) I am looking forward to our 60th reunion. I hope my classmates are also now making plans to attend. I am still refereeing soccer games (good exercise) and instructing referees. I was captain at one of our local precinct during the 2012 election. Thirteen hours of continuous voting. So one tries to keep the body moving and the mind working. Best wishes to all of you. See you at the next reunion.(Posted November 14, 2012)

Joan Nicholson Last fall, I traveled with a delegation in Pakistan to hear from people whose family members had been killed by U.S. drones. On Inauguration Day, I joined a peace march in Washington, D.C. with replica drones and a 'die-in.' In February, during John Brennan's first confirmation hearing to be C.I.A. director, I was arrested with others for opposing his involvement with drone and torture policies. Several of us will be on trial in August. Fortunately, I live near a highway and can vigil several hours each weekday during rush hours. I believe we need to speak out as long as we can.(Posted May 16, 2013)
Helen Mills SandersI am sad to report that my husband, Frank, died on March 21, 2013 of pulmonary fibrosis. I am continuing to live in the home we had built in 1964, and have much help from my three children. I continue to teach a few piano students, and am active in two music teachers' associations, our local music organization and junior club. I guess keeping busy is the best thing. My daughter and I are attending a new multi-cultural Presbyterian church, finding it very rewarding, and I'm looking forward to being able to become active in it as a member. Frank and I would have marked 56 years of marriage in July, but now I must face a new stage of life - I hope with confidence. I hope I can come down to Earlham sometime to see the new arts and sciences buildings - they sound wonderful!(Posted May 16, 2013)

Lou AbbeyHope you had a good winter, and that spring is warming you. Here in Revere, Mass., we are preparing to move — not far, just down the beach from where we now live. We"re selling our house and moving to a condo. Neither has occurred yet, however. We have reached the age when it no longer is a joy to shovel fresh-fallen snow. The challenge of scraping off old paint to apply the fresh coat has turned into the need to stave off the old pain after all the scraping. It just ain't the fun it used to be. But then, with our youngest daughter getting married in the middle of May, we've got a lot ahead to enjoy and savor. We saw Larry Robinson and his wife, Lynn, and Lenny and Mary Ann '65 Cadwallader in D.C. this past January when we went down for the Inauguration. Hopefully the old Turtle Hall crew will get together at Larry's this Fall. That's about it from here. Please send your happenings and thoughts to be included in the Class of '64 news in the Earlhamite. Nothing is too small or insignificant. We're getting to that age when we want to hold each other close and feel connections. Think, also, about the 50th Reunion coming up. Bob OlsonWe've lived in Virginia a long time - 36 years - but then we (partially) shifted to New England. We head to a cottage near Camden, Maine from June through October, but continue to live in Arlington, Va. from November through May. We love Maine, but two sons and four grandchildren who live within two miles of us in Arlington keep us anchored in Virginia. I seem to be in a continuing "Failed Retirement." I retired several years ago from my long-time role as research director of the Institute for Alternative Futures, a think tank in Alexandria that I helped to get going back in the late 1970s. I became a "senior fellow," which means I don't really have any responsibilities, but I can still put my finger into things. So I've done that and also gotten involved in ongoing projects with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and other organizations. As a result, I find myself employed about half-time, working from home (VA or ME) only on projects I'm really interested in. I wish I could have worked this arrangement out decades ago! For fun I bike, kayak and do archery, and now and then pick up a guitar and play the folk songs popular in the early '60s.(Posted November 17, 2012)

The meetings of the Council are always invigorating experiences for me; similar to what I feel at our class reunions. It is very uplifting to be with other alums who cherish how the Earlham experience has shaped who they are and how they experience and respond to our world. Before our meeting today I took an early morning walk around front campus to visit some of my "old friends" — Carpenter Hall, Bundy Hall, Earlham Hall, Olvey-Andis Hall, and the Stout Meeting House. I spent 20 minutes meditating in the quiet room and giving thanks for the many wonderful people —especially my classmates — that I have met at Earlham over the last 52 years. They, you, have enriched my life immensely! I wish to let you know that the Alumni Council is working diligently to help current E.C. students have an enriching Earlham experience. Through on-campus activities in the fall and in the spring, Council members meet with students in informal social settings, as well as in a more programed setting in which alums provide resume reviews and mock interviews for students. Alumni Council members are very impressed with the quality of the students we have met at those venues. Also, the Council is in the initial stages of endowing an Alumni Council Fund for Faculty Scholarship and Innovation which would provide annual grants to help fund student-faculty collaborative research. My experience during the last two years I have been on campus leads me to believe that Earlham remains a community where students are engaged with people and experiences that help them to better understand themselves and the world they live in, while they are also challenged to become the kind of persons who will help create a more compassionate and just world. I trust that the current students will come to cherish the Earlham community as much as we do!(Posted May 05, 2013)Marcia Barlow GriffithMy only news is that Brenda's daughter Brooklyn, will have her first birthday on April 22. We are now doing programs for teens only and added a trip to West Virginia for rafting and tree top ziplining. I find that "all nighters" at the Intensive Care Unit take a much greater toll than those at Earlham. Manage to go to the gym most days to try to stay in enough shape to keep up (at least part way) with the teens at camp. Strange how we are a year older each summer while the kids are still the same age. Still working actively with a group in Moscow and will host another six Russians this summer. This makes 120 different Russian teens who have stayed with us, with most coming back at least two times. Life with diabetes has improved in the 20 years we have been involved, at least in the big cities.(Posted May 05, 2013)

Wilson Palmer We have now finished the academic year of the 40th anniversary when many of us graduated from Earlham. I have not heard, yet, how we did on attempting to get 50% of us to give to Earlham this year in honor of this anniversary and those classmates who are no longer with us. I do have the very pleasurable "results" of wonderful telephone conversations with Craig Barth, Scott Charlton, Joan Downing, Michael Kaplan and Mary (Patterson) Prince. I do not enjoy soliciting on the college's behalf, but those telephone calls were a sweet reward for my time. Thanks for talking with me! Similarly, I received touching and newsy emails from Alister Bell, Katie (Gregg) Campbell, Mark Cobbe and Peter Clay. Mark's email attached one of his water color art works and I am impressed. I feel fond affection for you all and wish you the best in your joys and struggles. Betsy Blake BennettAfter over eight years as a deacon in the Episcopal Church, I'm now serving as Archdeacon of the Diocese of Nebraska. While my parish assignment in Grand Island, Neb., continues, I'm getting very familiar with every part of this big state. I have been involved in the union movement for almost as long and for the last decade have been the elected AFSCME Chapter Chair of court reporters in Criminal, Family and Civil Courts throughout New York City. In addition, I continue to be excited by poems I write, based on my experiences -- some even get published by small poetry publishers and websites with exotic names you probably have never heard of. My Literature classes with Professors Gordon Thompson, Andrea Jacoby and Paul Lacey were some of the highlights of my time at Earlham. In the course of his graduation it came to the attention of the College that I did not hold a BA degree. Turns out that graduation requirements have evolved over four decades. Claire Holvik FavroI went back to Richmond this summer with Hank and introduced him to all sorts of emotionally meaningful locations on campus and in town. We discovered together the history of the Gennett Recording Studio that was established by Starr Pianos with headquarters in the Whitewater Gorge. The city has placed commemorative LP-shaped markers for each musical giant on a newly constructed walkway in the Gorge. Well worth the hike down there to learn this history. On the personal front, I married Hank Payne in May of 2011 and in November we (finally) co-located in our very own home in Poulsbo, Wa. Every day (we're both retired now) is full with family events, neighbors and friends, and a great deal of live acoustic music-making in a vibrant folk community. Getting new gigs, updating www.hanknclaire.com, rehearsing, and all the travel to/from gigs keeps us very, very busy. Each day brings new gratitude that life has taken this turn and that we can give back even a little of the joy we've received. Lynne Anderson CollierSome belated but still exciting news! Our son Grant Collier graduated from Earlham last May (2012) with a Peace & Global Studies degree. He enjoyed his time at Earlham very much, and was involved many student activities, including several music performance groups. I thoroughly enjoyed being an Earlham parent during his time there, and was often reminded of the great positive influence Earlham had on my life as a student. I am thankful that Grant was able to meet so many different types of people and learn in such a rich environment.(Posted May 05, 2013)

If you haven't had a chance to see all the EC friends you love, then make plans now to attend our 2014 reunion. We had such a fabulous turnout last time; let's make this one even bigger! I know I would love to see you, and so would everyone else. Watch for more details later in the year.(Posted May 16, 2013)
Donna HerringI still live in central Ohio, where David teaches geology. The short story is that I took four years off while the kids were small, including David's first sabbatical year when we spent 14 months in Australia. I wrote grants for community health centers part-time for six years, and in the last couple years have been doing scientific editing and easing my way back into geology -- way fun! Last year was David's second full-year sabbatical, and we spent three months of it in Guatemala, where our children Anna (now 12) and Carl (now 11) were born; David taught earthquake-resistant construction techniques, I worked with a Mayan women's sewing co-op, Anna and Carl helped a non-profit with food deliveries. Life is ever-changing and consistently good, in ways I could never have anticipated and certainly didn't plan. Would love to hear from EC folks, and we have futon space if you coastal dwellers are ever driving through Flyoverland. dmherring@voyager.net(Posted February 28, 2013)

Anne Ebetino McDanielI want to share with our Earlham friends news about a project we are working on in the memory and honor of my late husband Marty McDaniel. In October of 2010 the Rev. Martin McDaniel, along with his father-in-law Frank Ebetino visited the Mission Clinic in El Cortijo, Guatemala. Beginning in 2007, Frank Ebetino and his brother Charles began a fundraising project to raise money to build a medical clinic to serve the needs of those living in the impoverished mountain villages south of Guatemala City, Guatemala. In the last five years, over $50,000 was raised to build the clinic. During construction of the clinic Marty took a great interest in this project and had the opportunity to see firsthand the blessings that God has bestowed on these people and to lead the worship with Dr. Erick Estrada, the founding doctor/pastor, and his wife. The clinic is now open on a regular daily schedule and 75-100 patients are being seen each week to address their medical needs. The clinic is already over-capacity as it is also being used to provide bible instruction classes, spiritual devotions and vocational training. Since Marty’s death in 2011, memorial money has been donated to the medical clinic and to purchase 1,500 Spanish Bibles in Marty’s name. Marty’s family wants to do more. We dream of building a chapel in Marty’s memory that would be an extension of the medical mission already established in El Cortijo, providing for the spiritual needs as well as the needs of the body. Marty’s daughter Corrie had the opportunity to follow in her father’s footsteps and visit the clinic in November of 2012. During that visit, Dr. Estrada informed her that the community had the same dream and wanted to purchase land next to the clinic for a chapel. With your prayers and monetary help we will be able to help the people of El Cortijo experience God’s loving presence through the establishment of The Rev. Martin McDaniel Memorial Chapel. If you would like to support the creation of this chapel and the work of the Estrada family, contact Anne at ebetino@cox.net.(Posted May 5, 2013)Julie Saeger Nierenberg writes, "Greetings from Toronto and Lake Simcoe, Ontario, where the summer is amazing. Ian WesslerWith my daughter finishing high school and doing the college tours, I've thought a lot about Earlham and tried to express what it meant for me. I've realized that much of what I think and feel is very much due to my experience at Earlham. Now I find myself assisting the City of Ashland Parks Department in their effort to develop and sustain the "Japanese Garden" in Lithia Park. The Japanese Studies Program influenced many of my life choices and is the reason I can enjoy a conversation in Japanese while designing the entry gate for a beautiful garden. The strange/odd and amazing threads of my life have been constantly pulled and woven together by the stuff that started at Earlham. After working in Japan for a few years I came back to the U.S. and eventually completed a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Oregon. In my last year at U of O, I joined with a couple of Japanese students, who were also finishing that program, and together we initiated a study abroad semester in Kyoto that is still going strong. We had the full support of the Landscape Department and a very creative professor who believed in our dream. Eventually, I hope to facilitate a connection between the Japanese Garden Study Semester at the University of Oregon and the Asian Studies Program at Earlham College. For the past 20 years or so I've been riding the challenges of owning and running my landscape design/build business, Wessler Design Associates, Inc. It is a small business that has given me huge opportunities to create wonderful gardens and parks. I also joke that it could double as a fitness program. Don't worry about a special diet, just come 'work out' planting and building rock walls. (Posted February 28, 2013)

My business offers various Spanish programs throughout Portland including Family Spanish, afterschool Spanish, and Spanish immersion summer camps. It's been a busy but rewarding year. Andrea TodtSince graduating I met my partner, and now husband, Cody Hopkins (a graduate of Hendrix College) and we started a pasture-based, diversified, livestock farm near my parents place outside of Marshall, Ark. We've grown from a few pasture-raised broilers in 2007 to raising broilers, turkeys, ducks, sometimes laying hens, and cattle on pasture and hogs in our wooded acreage. We are currently in the process of buying the farm which we've been leasing the past few years. I'm still involved with horses as well, although they are currently enjoying life out to pasture for the most part as we have our almost-two-year-old (Sam) and are expecting our second in the next month and a half, which leaves me with not much time, nor inclination at this particular point in time, to ride much! I will get back to it though. I would love to see any Earlham folks that are ever through the area! As soon as we move to the farm we will have ample room for visitors (you might get put to work, but you'll eat really well while you're here!). In general life is good and it is an exciting time to be part of the local food movement here in central Arkansas.(Posted November 17, 2012)

Sarah GlassmanI'm happy to report that I'm almost a month away from finishing my Masters degree right now! After taking a gap year to work as an Americorps*VISTA in Milwaukee, Wis., I finally came back to New Jersey to pursue a dual Masters in Teaching ESL and special education. It's been a lot of work, but I know it will be rewarding when I get a teaching job. Since graduating, I've visited Earlham twice - once in 2010 to spend the Fourth of July with Syd Archibald, Paul Berghoff, and Kellan Lutz, and again this past March to teach a fencing clinic and talk about my experiences with Americorps (and to hang out with Mandi Rice, Emily Bobrowich, and Babbs McLemore). Outside of Earlham, I've been able to catch up with Alisa Cohen on a few occasions. Overall, enjoying soaking up knowledge outside of the academic realm but missing my Earlham friends always!(Posted May 16, 2013)
Sarah Clinton-McCauslandI'm in Minneapolis forging an adult-like living situation and a state of domestic roommate bliss with Holly Newlin '11 in our cozy urban apartment. I've been working for almost a year in financial operations at Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union, a job that is fairly unrelated to my major but which has taught me a lot about how banking and financial systems work. I am planning to return to school to pursue a Master's degree in Library and Information Sciences sometime within the next few years. Recent Earlham-related highlights include a December NYC birthday extravaganza hosted/attended by Rosa Ostrom, Anna McCormally, and Carolyn Griffith; hanging out with Emma Berke-Williams and Anna McCormally in MN; and continuing to wait for Alex Morrone '14 to hurry up and graduate.(Posted May 16, 2013)
Maggie DavidsonThe first year after graduation can be rough. I moved back in with my parents and could not find a job to save my life. I was worried that I would never find a job that I liked, and I wasn't even sure what I wanted to do. However, after settling with the only job I could find, I kept applying and took online classes to increase my skills. I finally found the job I have now, working in 4-H, which has always been a passion of mine. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you are feeling lost and worthless and you don't know what you want to do with your life or how to get there, take a deep breath and know you are not alone. Talk to everyone you know — you never know what connections will be useful. Research. Volunteer. Take less than ideal jobs if you need to, but never give up applying for better ones. That right job may just fall into your lap unexpectedly.(Posted May 16, 2013)
Norah DossI have completed the MAT program at Earlham, and walked across Chase Stage again! After graduation I traveled to Cuautla, Mexico to visit family friends and see my host family from when I studied there. I will be teaching at Explore-A-College this summer and am looking forward to spending the next year living in Albuquerque, N.M., working and applying to PhD programs.(Posted May 16, 2013)
Kerry FlannaganIn the past year, Matthew Jackson and I have been living in Michigan, first in Taylor and now Ann Arbor. I work as a lab tech at the Michigan Medical Genetics Laboratory, part of the U of M hospital. It's a clinical lab where I run analytical chemistry tests to diagnose genetic diseases, and it's been both rewarding and fun. Matt recently got a job with the U of M physics department as part of the team that sets up and runs physics demonstrations for undergraduates. In the near future we're both planning to pursue PhDs (in epidemiology and physics) but for now we're trying to take a break from classes and relax. We miss all of our Earlham pals and hope everything is going really wonderfully for everyone!(Posted May 16, 2013)

Camilla FulviJumping straight from graduation into Earlham's M.A.T. program was exhausting but extremely rewarding. I taught 9th grade English at Richmond High School this past year, and I plan on staying in the area to do more teaching. Aaron Cooney and I are loving post-grad life in Richmond with our awesome cat, Eliot. We miss our friends (especially from "Milson") and hope all of the 2012 grads are doing wonderfully!(Posted May 05, 2013)Albert "Bill" GreeneFor those of you who will enter world with the painful premonition of difficulty, I urge you to find a simple service-industry job, make enough to travel, to laugh, to go out and live. We are young, the economy is mediocre, and the tunnel though the education system that we have just passed through is designed to rush you into a life led in the pursuit of the dollar. Make sure that you find something else to live for before you are swept away by the social pressures that lead to the all-too-familiar narrative of the job, the spouse, the family, the kids. If Earlham has lead me to one particular insight, it is that life must filled with passion, with a will to live for many reasons, that one ought not be focused on the grand divisions that make up the "stages" of life. Live hard, die when you're ready.(Posted November 13, 2012)
Bailey M. HallI certainly would not be where I am today if it weren't for Earlham! As a freshman at Earlham I was taught the importance of Community and how to become part of a community. Never did I think that becoming part of the Earlham Community and working in Residence Life would lead me to work in Admissions. I am currently an Assistant Director of Admissions at IU East and am loving helping students in the surrounding Richmond communities learn to become part of the IU East Community. I am very grateful to be able to continue to work in Richmond, a community that Earlham taught me to love! I feel very blessed to be able to help first generation college students in the region understand the value of an education, and have gotten a lot of enjoyment in helping them become college students and part of the IU East community.Posted May 16, 2013)

Robert LuggI will be finishing up my education/outreach work experience with an environmental science research center at IUPUI here in Indianapolis at the end of July. I will then be heading to the University of Nevada-Reno to start an M.A. program in English Literature in August. Some highlights coming up for this summer include attending the Indy 500, running the Cincy Flying Pig road race with Earlham XC alumni, and going to Chicago to watch the Cubs lose with Ross Price. The summer will end with a cross-country road trip, mostly because I want to see North Dakota SO BADLY.(Posted May 16, 2013)
Molly MahoneyLiving at home. Working in a co-op in Philadelphia with Mia Herring '10. After a sleepless four years as a Mathematics major at Earlham, I using this time to get back in touch with myself. I have pushed myself to open myself up to new experiences which has led me to make fun, interesting and new friends. Living in Philadelphia has given me the opportunity to spend time with Earlham Graduates/current students. I love that am getting the chance to get to know some absolutely amazing Earlham students. Eventually, in a year or two, I want to attend graduate school for Epidemiology. I am currently applying for internships/jobs in the mathematics field, and will hopefully find myself living in the cities of Indianapolis, Boston, or Austin in the near future. On a more sappy note to all alums and current students: Embrace your life! It is full of surprises--good and bad. Have the confidence that Earlham has prepared you to handle anything that crosses your path! Peace and Love.(Posted November 13, 2012)

I was able to make it back to Earlham a couple times this year, and had a great time at Harumatsuri! Starting this July, I will be putting my Japanese Studies degree to good use in Japan where I will be teaching English with AEON Corporation. I'm looking forward to seeing this year's JS graduates and TSA students in Japan! Good luck in the post-college world to the class of 2013!(Posted May 16, 2013)Nabil ParkarI'm currently working with fellow Earlhamites, Peter Nagy '88, Shabab Rahman and Brad Maisey '13 as we try to rebuild a 60-year-old company that was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Sophie RhemAI got married in September, after moving back to my hometown of Madison, Wis. My new husband, Zach, and I headed to Scotland and then England for our honeymoon. When we returned after 2 weeks, we both got jobs. I'm a preschool teacher having a blast with a bunch of three-year-olds. Zach returned to school this spring to finish his degree in computer programming. When he finishes up, we hope to start working on a family (besides our loving pit bull and goldfish). Life is grand at the moment and hope it stays that way!(Posted May 16, 2013)

Kevin SchmidtI am finishing my first year at the University of Michigan Medical School. This summer I will be participating in vascular surgery research, and attending a brief course on aerospace medicine at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. This year's been crazy but rewarding, and from time to time I still try to go bowling and watch birds. If you're in Ann Arbor, let's meet up!(Posted May 16, 2013)
Madeline SchwartzDearest Earlhamites, I miss you all IMMENSELY, but I wanted to write to y'all to inform you that there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Although you are now in the post-college-summer-camp-world, and becoming a 'functioning person of society' seems to be rather a big step, just calm it down. Listen, you don't have to give into the stereotypically melancholy transition of no longer having all of your best friends living on the same block as you, not getting to go to the metals studio whenever you feel up to it, or having to say goodbye to hashes. I know getting a job is rough, and the idea of popping right back into school again sounds treacherous, but here I am in Amsterdam studying sexuality and gender and am re-discovering my passion for activism and social change (note: even though I majored in psych, and never took a women's studies class). I know we're all broke, but financial aid can still have your back if you're willing to utilize it! So don't neglect the fantasy of looking into studying abroad options during this in-between time. I found it imperative in my discovery of finding the field of study I want to go to grad school for! ALSO you NEVER have to say goodbye to hashes my fellow harriers. Really. At the moment, I am having an amazing experience learning about socio-political structures involving sexuality, immigration and gender in the Netherlands. It has inspired me to bring home the framework for a feminist activist movement entitled the Dolle Minas, and it will be blasting off in Seattle, Washington this summer! So any women's studies majors out there interested in getting involved in a new progressive demonstration movement should let me know! Remember, getting yourself integrated into a new community isn't as hard as you might think, just takes a little bit of effort and a smile. With all the Quakeriest Love that I possess, keep being the light in the room that Earlham helped you to become, and never stop asking questions. I wish you all a merry transition period! L'chaim!(Posted November 13, 2012)

Kalila Zunes-WolfeIn the fall I was fortunate enough to get a position with the Obama campaign as a deputy field organizer in the Heartland region of swing state North Carolina, experiencing the rural South firsthand, saying goodbye to the white liberal bubble from which I had come and hello to the scary old white men with shotguns and No Trespassing signs. But really, it was a fantastic experience and I met a lot of amazing people! Then election season ended and I realized prospective employers didn't really give a crap if I could knock on 100 doors a day, so after one of those crappy temp jobs conducting phone surveys to pay the rent, I decided to go with Plan B and volunteer in a foreign country. Now I'm practicing my Spanish and playing with adorable underprivileged 4- to 6-year-olds at an educational reinforcement NGO in Guatemala City, and it's awesome! Summer brings backpacking in the Black Mountains of North Carolina as a Quaker Camp Counselor, and fall brings...well, a steady job would be nice, but we'll see where life takes me. Hope you're all doing beautifully and congrats & good luck to the graduating class of 2013!(Posted May 17, 2013)
