Building skills and encouraging exploration

If art is your life's passion, Earlham’s art program has plentiful opportunities waiting for you.

Students learn contemporary craft media (ceramics, metalsmithing, weaving) and traditional media (drawing, painting, photography) from an experienced staff of artists who, in addition to teaching, create and exhibit their own art. Students are encouraged to use the many available resources, including multiple kilns, studios, a darkroom, and an on-campus exhibition space.

Majors can take advantage of off-campus opportunities like the New York Arts Program, apprenticeships or internships, or one of Earlham's international programs in Asia, Europe and New Zealand.

Whether it's continuing your art education or beginning your career in curatorial practices, art history or another focus, there are many options after graduation.

  • Walt Bistline
    Photo Ready

Assistant Professor of Art Walt Bistline’s own path to photography is unusual. After working as a lawyer for 25 years, Bistline decided to pursue his creative passion behind the lens.

  • Marcela Pardo
    The Power of Art

Earlham art major Marcela Pardo knows the power of art. She knows art can be aesthetically pleasant, art can cause people to feel, and perhaps more importantly, art can cause people to think differently.
