AMEILA, Ohio — One day after returning from Florida, the Earlham College baseball team was back on the road Monday as the Quakers lost to the College of Mount St. Joseph 9-3.

Senior Kyle Gallagher (Richmond, IN/Richmond) and first-year Jake Carr (Richmond, IN/Richmond) led the Quakers with two hits each.

Sophomore Alex Anderson (Logansport, IN/Logansport) started the game on the mound for the Quakers. Anderson (1-4) went seven innings giving up six hits and six runs with only three being earned. Sophomore Randy Kerns (West Manchester, OH/National Trail) pitched the eighth and gave up three runs on one hit.

Carr gave the Quakers a 1-0 in the first inning when he knocked in a run on a ground out.

Mount St. Joseph (12-4) scored twice in the bottom of the first and then added another in the second.

In the third, Carr made it 3-2 with a run-scoring single. The Lions took control with a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh.

Anderson picked up a RBI on a fielder’s choice in the eighth for Earlham before Mount St. Joseph finished the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Earlham (5-8) was to entertain Temple Baptist College on Tuesday, but that contest was canceled because the Rams are no longer fielding a team this season.

After 12 contests away from home, the Quakers will finally get to play four games at McBride Stadium this weekend against Ohio Wesleyan University. The North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday begins at 5 p.m. Sunday's games start at 1 p.m.
