Quakers Brave Weather to Play at Wabash

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — On a cold and snowy afternoon, the Earlham College baseball team opened its four-game North Coast Athletic Conference series with Wabash College on Friday.
Wabash defeated the Quakers 16-4 in the first game at Mud Hollow Field and then the Little Giants won the second contest 13-6.
Wabash jumped out to a 13-0 advantage after four innings in the first game. Earlham then scored twice in the top of the fifth inning on RBI singles by sophomore Tilmon Clark (Winchester, IN/Winchester) and senior Kyle Gallagher (Richmond, IN/Richmond).
The Little Giants were up 16-2 when senior Kyle Bond (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) added a two-run single in the seventh for the Quakers to finish the scoring.
Junior Eric Sturgeon (Logansport, IN/Logansport) started the contest on the mound for Earlham and went three innings to take the loss to go 2-2 on the year.
In the second game, Wabash led 8-0 when Sturgeon hit a three-run homer in the fifth to close the gap. The Little Giants followed with five runs in the bottom of the frame.
Sturgeon and sophomore Cal Wilson (Pendleton, IN/Pendleton Heights) had RBI singles in the seventh. First-year Jake Carr (Richmond, IN/Richmond) knocked in the last run for the Quakers on a fielder’s choice.
Sophomore Alex Anderson (Logansport, IN/Logansport) pitched five innings and picked up the loss giving him a 1-6 mark for the season.
Earlham (5-14, 0-6 in NCAC West) is back at Wabash on Saturday to finish the NCAC series with a doubleheader with the Little Giants (8-17-1, 3-7) beginning at noon.
