Quakers Face Cedarville at McBride Stadium

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team dropped a non-conference contest to Cedarville University 16-7 on Tuesday at McBride Stadium.
First-year Jake Carr (Richmond, IN/Richmond) led the Quakers with three hits, while senior Kyle Bond (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead), sophomores Alex Anderson (Logansport, IN/Logansport) and Tilmon Clark (Winchester, IN/Winchester) had two hits each.
Sophomore Randy Kerns (West Manchester, OH/National Trail) started on the mound for Earlham working into the third inning to get tagged with the loss falling to 1-3. Senior Rob Kinne (Ft. Wayne, IN/Canterbury) went the rest of the way for the Quakers.
After falling behind 1-0, the Quakers scored twice in the bottom of the first to take the lead on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Cal Wilson (Pendleton, IN/Pendleton Heights) and a RBI single by Bond.
Cedarville went on top 3-2 in the second and the Quakers tied the contest in the bottom of the frame with a sacrifice fly by senior Kyle Gallagher (Richmond, IN/Richmond).
With seven runs in the third, Cedarville (5-20) took control of the game. Carr made it 10-4 with a sacrifice fly in Earlham’s third inning.
The Quakers added single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh. Anderson had a run-scoring single in the fifth, while Wilson added another sacrifice fly in the sixth. Junior Eric Sturgeon (Logansport, IN/Logansport) ended Earlham’s scoring with a bases loaded walk in the seventh.
Earlham (5-15) visits Wittenberg University on Saturday for a doubleheader. The opening contest of the four-game North Coast Athletic Conference weekend series is at 1 p.m.
