Quakers Open NCAC Series Against Denison

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team opened its weekend North Coast Athletic Conference series on Saturday at McBride Stadium with Denison University.

Denison won the first game 10-3 and followed with a 9-1 victory in game two.

In the opener, Denison scored three runs in the top of the second inning, while the Quakers added two in their half of the frame.

Sophomore Tilmon Clark (Winchester, IN/Winchester) and senior Kyle Gallagher (Richmond, IN/Richmond) had RBI singles to get the Quakers to within one run.

Denison added two more runs in the third to lead 5-2 before first-year Jake Carr (Richmond, IN/Richmond) scored on a delayed steal of home for Earlham’s final run of the contest in the bottom of the inning.

Gallagher and Junior Eric Sturgeon (Logansport, IN/Logansport) had two hits each for the Quakers. On the mound, Sturgeon (2-4) went the distance for Earlham.

Trailing 5-0 in the second contest, Earlham scored their only run in the fifth on a RBI single by senior Kyle Bond (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead), who led the Quakers with a pair of hits.

Sophomore Alex Anderson (Logansport, IN/Logansport) pitched sixth innings for the Quakers and took the loss to fall to 1-8 on the season. Sophomore Randy Kerns (West Manchester, OH/National Trail) worked a perfect seventh to finish the contest.

Earlham (5-21, 0-12) ends the four-game NCAC series with Denison (15-15, 9-3) on Sunday with a doubleheader at McBride Stadium. The first game is at 1 p.m.
