CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team finished its season on Saturday with a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Wabash College.

The Little Giants won the opener 8-6 and took the second contest 6-4 in eight innings.

For the Quakers, seniors Kyle Bond (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead), Justin Colanese (New Carlisle, IN/New Prairie), Kyle Gallagher (Richmond, IN/Richmond) and Rob Kinne (Ft. Wayne, IN/Canterbury) played the last games of their careers.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first game, Earlham scored twice in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead on a two-run double by sophomore Danny Bridge (Logansport, IN/Lewis Cass).

Wabash eventually led 8-2 before first-year Jake Carr (Richmond, IN/Richmond) knocked in a run in the fifth on a fielder’s choice.

In the sixth, Gallagher made it 8-4 with a RBI single. Sophomore Cal Wilson (Pendleton, IN/Pendleton Heights) smacked a two-run homer in the seventh to make it 8-6.

Gallagher, Bridge and Wilson led the Quakers with two hits each.

Kinne (1-3) threw four innings and got the loss for the Quakers. Sophomore Randy Kerns (West Manchester, OH/National Trail) worked a pair of scoreless frames to finish the contest.

Junior Eric Sturgeon (Logansport, IN/Logansport) was suffered a broken nose in the first game, while trying to bunt in the third inning and missed the rest of the afternoon.

Earlham led until the seventh inning of the second game when Wabash scored three times to send the contest to extra innings. In the eighth, Wabash’s Mike Nowak hit a two-run homer to end the game.

The Quakers led 2-0 after their first time to the plate when Colanese scored on a wild pitch and Bond added a RBI single. Wilson made 3-0 with a run-scoring single in the sixth.

Wabash scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 3-1, but the Quakers responded in the top of the seventh when sophomore Alex Anderson (Logansport, IN/Logansport) tripled home a run to set up the winning rally by the Little Giants.

Anderson started on the mound for the Quakers and stopped pitching after facing three batters in the seventh. He gave up three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

Kerns (1-4), who was tagged with the loss, retired the Little Giants in the seventh and got one out in the eighth before being relieved by sophomore Kevin Greve (Farmersburg, IN/North Central).

Colanese and Carr led the Quakers (6-24, 1-15) with three hits apiece in game two.
