Quakers Finish NCAC Series at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio — The Earlham College baseball team ended its North Coast Athletic Conference West Division series with Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday with a pair of losses.
The Bishops won the opener 6-0 and the second contest 2-0.
Ohio Wesleyan (15-10, 7-5) took an early lead in the first game with three unearned runs in the second inning against Earlham first-year starter Adam Painter (Ft. Wayne, IN/Snider). The Bishops added single runs in the third, fifth and sixth.
Painter (1-4) worked six innings giving up seven hits and six runs with only two being earned. He also had three strikeouts and two walks.
First-year Kyle Ripperger (Richmond, IN/Richmond) led the Quakers with two hits including a double. Senior Eric Sturgeon (Logansport, IN/Logansport), first-year Andrew Morrical (Summitville, IN/Madison-Grant) and first-year Corey Murray (Richmond, IN/Richmond) had one hit each.
Junior Randy Kerns (West Manchester, OH/National Trail) had a complete game effort in the second game going six innings surrendering two runs on seven hits. Kerns (3-2) finished with three strikeouts and one walk.
Sturgeon, Ripperger, junior Alex Anderson (Logansport, IN/Logansport) and sophomore Jake Carr (Richmond, IN/Richmond) each had singles for the Quakers.
Earlham (11-13, 1-5) entertains Kenyon College on Wednesday. The first game of the non-conference doubleheader is at 5 p.m. The Lords play in the NCAC East Division.
