Former Quakers Basketball Standout
Stoops First to Play Pro … in Japan
Jan. 14, 2005
RICHMOND, Ind. — It’s a common dream of many high school
and college basketball players, that their athletic abilities might one day
take them as far as the professional ranks. For former Earlham star Nathan
Stoops ’03, the first Quakers player ever signed to a pro contract, his
skills and hard work have taken him very far, indeed. More.
2004-05 Season Preview
Oct.
20, 2004
RICHMOND, Ind. — Earlham head coach Jeff Justus enters his seventh
season with the Quakers
with
four returning starters and 10 lettermen from
a year ago.
Justus hopes the experience and improved depth will help the
Quakers improve upon last year's 9-17 record and sixth place
finish in
the North Coast Athletic Conference.

"I'm looking forward to working with
this team after a year of experience along with adding the talented
newcomers," Justus said.
Sophomores Jermaine Crumby (Richmond, IN/Richmond)
(14.5 ppg) and LaRon Henry (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) (14.4 ppg)
are
the top scorers
returning, while junior Brandon
Miller
(Richmond, IN/Richmond) (14.3
ppg) hopes to bounce back from a season-ending knee injury.
Junior Tyler Stewart (Richmond, IN/Richmond)
(4.5 ppg) is the other
starter returning. Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond) (15.5
ppg), last year's leading scorer,
transferred
to
Ball State.
The other returning players are seniors Troy Burks (Atlanta, GA/Westminister),
Jon Miller (Franklin, OH/Franklin), Evan Ogburn (Milton, KY/Trimble
County) and Mike Bradley (Richmond, IN/Richmond). Also back are
juniors Carlos Suberville (Salt Lake City, UT/Olympus) and Joe
Rihm (Beech Grove, IN/Beech Grove).
New to the program this season are Neil Collins (Ft. Wayne, IN/North),
On Richardson (Connersville, IN/Connersville), Joe White (Richmond,
IN/Richmond) and Nick Welsh (Muncie, IN/Wes-Del).
Justus is expecting this season's schedule to be difficult
with the NCAC foes along with non-conference opponents Hanover,
DePauw
and Rose-Hulman. The Quakers open the season Nov. 19 against
Wisconsin Lutheran in the Manchester Tip-off Tournament.
More About Men's Basketball
In a move to affiliate
itself with other colleges with like academic philosophies,
Earlham joined the North Coast Athletic Conference
in 1989. The conference tournament champion automatically qualifies
for the NCAA Division III tournament.
While participants in the
Quaker men's basketball program take their athletic commitment
seriously, they give academics
top priority. Nathan Boyce, a starting guard, received NCAC
Scholar-Athlete honors as Earlham's outstanding senior male student-athlete
in 1995. He earned more than $30,000 to attend graduate school
as a Beinecke Scholarship recipient and immediately began Ph.D.
studies at Stanford University. Belonging to the NCAA Division III, Earlham offers
academic scholarships to qualifying students as well as need-based
financial aid. For more information, contact head men's basketball
coach Jeff Justus at 765/983-1845, or by E-Mail at justuje@earlham.edu.
