Quakers fall in NCAC contest at Wabash

CRAWFORDSVILLE,
Ind. — Missed
opportunities at the free throw line hurt the Earlham College
men’s basketball team on Wednesday as the Quakers fell
72-66 to Wabash College in overtime in a North Coast Athletic
Conference contest.
The Quakers were 4-of-8 from the charity
stripe in the final minute of regulation, which allowed the Little
Giants
to tie the game
at 61-61 with two seconds left. “We had a great physical
effort in a hostile environment,” Earlham coach Jeff Justus
said. “We just came up short.”
In the extra session, Earlham led 64-63
at the 2:27 mark. Wabash responded with six straight points to
take
command 69-64 with 29
seconds remaining and the Quakers didn’t have enough time
for a comeback.
Junior LaRon Henry (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) led the Quakers
with 23 points and senior Brandon Miller (Richmond, IN/Richmond)
tossed in 13 points. Both players finished with five rebounds.
Junior Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond) added 12 points.
Sophomore Neil Collins (Ft. Wayne, IN/North) led Earlham with six
rebounds, while scoring nine points.
The game was tight through out the first half with eight ties.
Wabash eventually led 32-30 at intermission. Earlham built an early
41-34 advantage with 17:07 left in the second half. At the 10:56
mark the Quakers were in front 48-38, but the Little Giants rallied

Earlham bounced back with a run of its own
to lead 58-53 with 47 seconds left in regulation. That’s
when the missed free throws came to the forefront and Wabash
was able to send the game
into overtime.
Getting closer
With their performances on Wednesday, Miller, Jewett and Henry
moved up the all-time
scoring list. Miller now has 1,393 and needs
just seven points to tie Nathan Stoops (1999-2003) for 9th place.
Jewett (994) and Henry (984) will likely join the 1,000-point club
before the season is over.
Earlham (10-12, 7-6) entertains Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday.
