For Immediate Release:
Feb. 18, 2006
RICHMOND,
Ind. — A 13-point run to start the second half
was the difference for the Earlham College men’s basketball
team Saturday as the Quakers defeated North Coast Athletic
Conference foe Oberlin College 81-60 on Schuckman Court in
the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Earlham led 33-26 at intermission, but three
straight baskets by junior LaRon Henry (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina)
gave the Quakers
a boost. “We really came out with a lot more energy in the
second half on both ends of the floor,” Earlham coach Jeff
Justus said. “We started picking up full court on defense
and LaRon got a couple of quick steals and that got us going.”
Senior Tyler Stewart (Richmond, IN/Richmond) nailed a 3-pointer
with 16:27 left in the game to give the Quakers a 46-26 advantage.
The Yeomen were held scoreless until the 15:10 mark of the second
half.
Earlham started slowly and the game was tied
9-9 with 14:18 left in the first half. A 10-point run gave the
Quakers the lead for
good, but Oberlin rallied to close the gap with 26-23 at the 2:46
mark setting the stage for the decisive run in the second period. “They
responded well,” Justus said. “The seniors stepped
up. We took care of business and we’re going to start getting
ready for Wabash.”
The Quakers (12-13, 9-7) visit Wabash College (16-9, 10-6) on
Tuesday in the opening round of the NCAC
Tournament.
Senior Brandon Miller (Richmond, IN/Richmond)
led the Quakers with 22 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.
Miller also moved
from ninth to seventh place on Earlham’s all-time scoring
list with 1,437 points.
Junior Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond) added
18 points and six rebounds. Henry added 16 points. Stewart finished
with
five points in his final home game, while senior Bronson Lickliter
(Indianapolis, IN/Park Tudor) started his first contest of the
season in his last outing on Schuckman Court. Box
score.
