For Immediate Release:
Dec. 10, 2005
GAMBIER,
Ohio — A solid inside attack on Saturday afternoon
enabled the Earlham College men's basketball team to post an
86-80 victory over Kenyon
College.
The Quakers (3-4, 1-1) had four players in double figures as
they evened their North Coast Athletic Conference record. "We
did a good job offensively of getting the ball inside, " Earlham
coach Jeff Justus said. "We got ahead early and we got it up
to 13 a few times."
Over the last few games, free throws had become an issue for
the Quakers. On Saturday, the Quakers were 33 of 45 and 26 of
34 in the second half. We stepped up and did a good job at the
line, Justus said. We didnt miss many down the stretch.
Junior LaRon Henry (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) led the Quakers
with 22 points and junior Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond)
added 20. Senior Brandon Miller (Richmond, IN/Richmond) tossed
in 18 points, while pulling down 11 rebounds. "Brandon, Markous
and LaRon did a nice job," Justus said. First-year Tristian Gregory
(Evansville, IN/Harrison) scored a season-high 11 points.
Defensively, one of Kenyon's top scorers was held to 12 points.
"Tyler Stewart did a nice job of controlling Matt Formato," Justus
said. Formato scored 38 points in two games against the Quakers
a year ago.
Earlham scored the first baskets of the contest from behind the
3-point arch. Miller made the first at 18:28 and Stewart added
the next trey at 17:47 to put the Quakers in front 6-0.
Kenyon
closed the gap to 23-22 at the 8:08 mark of the opening half
before the Quakers led 40-33 at intermission. Earlham maintained
the
advantage the rest of the way leading by 13 points on three occasions.
Kenyon (3-4, 0-2) could get no closer than four points in the
second half.
Earlham visits Rose-Hulman on Thursday. The non-conference
