Quakers fall in road contest against
Wilmington

WILMINGTON,
Ohio — A short road trip turned into a long
afternoon on Wednesday as the Earlham College men’s basketball
squad dropped a 78-71 decision to Wilmington College.
Junior LaRon Henry (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) continued his scoring
success as he led Earlham with 25 points. Henry has reached double
figures in the last seven contests and has been over 20 points in
five of those games.
Earlham scored the first 10 points of the game by the 15:46 mark
of the opening half. Wilmington found the basket with 15:22 remaining
to make it 10-2. Earlham eventually led 20-10 before Wilmington rallied
to go in front 32-31 with 2:44 left. Earlham, however, responded
and led 38-36 at intermission.
The second half proved to be just as tight with both teams having
small leads before Wilmington worked its way to 61-52 advantage with
11:02 remaining in the game. Earlham bounced back with an 11-2 run
to tie the contest at 63-63 with six minutes on the clock. The score
was tied again at 65-65 with 4:25 left, but Wilmington (9-1) finished
the contest with a 13-6 run to put the game away.
Senior Brandon Miller (Richmond, IN/Richmond)
finished with 17 points for Earlham. With his first basket of the
contest, Miller moved into
14th on Earlham’s all-time scoring list. He now has 1,187 points
and next up on the list is Ken Stewart. Stewart, who played for the
Quakers from 1966-70, is a member of the Earlham Athletics Hall of
Fame with 1,273 points in his career. Miller’s current teammate,
Tyler Stewart (Richmond, IN/Richmond), is the nephew of Ken Stewart.
Junior Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond)
tossed in eight points for Earlham, while leading the way with
six rebounds. Jewett is also
closing in on the 1,000-point plateau with 865 points. Henry’s
efforts over the past few games have him at 745 points.
Earlham (4-7) returns to action on Jan. 6 against
Hiram College. The North Coast Athletic Conference contest begins
at 7:30 p.m. on
Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center. Box score.
