WILMINGTON, Ohio — A short road trip turned into a long afternoon on Wednesday as the Earlham College men’s basketball squad dropped a 78-71 decision to Wilmington College.

Junior LaRon Henry (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) continued his scoring success as he led Earlham with 25 points. Henry has reached double figures in the last seven contests and has been over 20 points in five of those games.

Earlham scored the first 10 points of the game by the 15:46 mark of the opening half. Wilmington found the basket with 15:22 remaining to make it 10-2. Earlham eventually led 20-10 before Wilmington rallied to go in front 32-31 with 2:44 left. Earlham, however, responded and led 38-36 at intermission.

The second half proved to be just as tight with both teams having small leads before Wilmington worked its way to 61-52 advantage with 11:02 remaining in the game. Earlham bounced back with an 11-2 run to tie the contest at 63-63 with six minutes on the clock. The score was tied again at 65-65 with 4:25 left, but Wilmington (9-1) finished the contest with a 13-6 run to put the game away.

Senior Brandon Miller (Richmond, IN/Richmond) finished with 17 points for Earlham. With his first basket of the contest, Miller moved into 14th on Earlham’s all-time scoring list. He now has 1,187 points and next up on the list is Ken Stewart. Stewart, who played for the Quakers from 1966-70, is a member of the Earlham Athletics Hall of Fame with 1,273 points in his career. Miller’s current teammate, Tyler Stewart (Richmond, IN/Richmond), is the nephew of Ken Stewart.

Junior Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond) tossed in eight points for Earlham, while leading the way with six rebounds. Jewett is also closing in on the 1,000-point plateau with 865 points. Henry’s efforts over the past few games have him at 745 points.

Earlham (4-7) returns to action on Jan. 6 against Hiram College. The North Coast Athletic Conference contest begins at 7:30 p.m. on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center. Box score.
