Quakers Face No. 11 Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Earlham College men’s basketball team tangled with North Coast Athletic Conference foe Wittenberg University on Wednesday night.
Ranked No. 11 in the latest D3hoops.com poll, the Tigers defeated Earlham 87-40.
Senior Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond) and junior Neil Collins (Ft. Wayne, IN/North) led the Quakers with nine points each, while senior LaRon Henry (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) and junior Nick Welsh (Muncie, IN/Wes-Del) tossed in six points each.
First-year Tarrell Berry (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) led Earlham with five rebounds.
The contest was close early with Wittenberg leading 7-6 with 16:16 remaining in the first half. The Tigers (17-3, 9-2) went on a 14-5 run to lead 21-11 at the 9:28 mark. After that, Wittenberg worked its way to a 37-15 advantage by intermission.
In the second period, the Tigers increased their margin and put the game away.
Jewett’s scoring effort moved him into 9th place on Earlham’s scoring list with 1,430 points. He passed Terry Scott (1981-85) who had 1,426 points in his career.
Earlham (7-13, 5-6) is at Kenyon College on Saturday. The NCAC game is at 3 p.m.
