RICHMOND, Ind. — Despite having three players in double figures on Thursday, the Earlham College men’s basketball team fell 74-73 to Denison University in overtime on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

Sophomore Tristian Gregory (Evansville, IN/Harrison) scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Quakers in the North Coast Athletic Conference contest that was delayed one day by inclement weather.

Junior Neil Collins (Ft. Wayne, IN/North) added 12 points, while senior Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond) tossed in 11 points. Collins, Jewett and junior Nick Welsh (Muncie, IN/Wes-Del) lead Earlham with six rebounds each.

In the first half, Earlham got off to an early 6-2 advantage, but Denison (5-18, 4-11) responded to tie the game at 6-6 with 15:29 left. “You have to be ready to go from the outset,” Earlham Head Coach Jeff Justus said. “I’m just not sure we were concentrating on doing the right things.”

The opening period was close the entire 20 minutes with Denison leading by four points once. By intermission, the score was tied for the tenth time at 30-30.

Denison started the second half with an 8-2 run to lead 38-32 with 16:39 remaining in the contest. The Big Red never led by more than six as the Quakers fought back and eventually tied the game at 47-47 with 8:53 on the clock. Denison worked its way to 55-49 lead with 5:37 left, but Earlham bounced back and led 58-56 after Gregory scored and then added a free throw with 2:13 left.

Moments later, Denison got a basket from senior Dan Hodgkinson with four seconds remaining to send the game to an extra session with the score 63-63.

After the Quakers picked up a 67-66 advantage at the 3:39 mark of overtime, scored six straight points to gain control with 20 ticks left as Dension was able to hold its lead in the final seconds.

Jewett and fellow seniors LaRon Henry (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) and Joe Rihm (Beech Grove, IN/Beech Grove) were honored prior to the game as they played their final regular season home contest.

Earlham (8-16, 6-9) concludes the regular season at Oberlin College on Saturday. The NCAC game starts at 3 p.m.
