Early Advantage Slips Away as Quakers Fall

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College men’s basketball team had an eight-point lead evaporate early in the first half against Manchester College Sunday afternoon as the Quakers dropped a 72-56 decision on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Earlham scored on its first three possessions of the contest to take an 8-0 with 18:08 on the clock before Manchester was able to recover.
Manchester did respond with a 10-point run to lead 10-8 with 15:07 left in the opening period.
Junior Nick Welsh (Muncie, IN/Wes-Del) tied the game at 10-10 with a basket at 14:46, but the Quakers would never be closer than one point as the Spartans (4-0) built a 33-25 advantage by intermission.
In the second half, Manchester increased its lead to 46-29 with 16:25 remaining in the contest. The Quakers could get no closer than eight points in the final period.
Senior Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond) led the Quakers with 23 points, while senior LaRon Henry (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) added 13 points. Welsh grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Earlham (0-4) visits the College of Wooster on Saturday. The North Coast Athletic Conference game starts at 3 p.m. Earlham all-time scoring list. Box Score.
