For Immediate Release:
Dec. 9, 2006
RICHMOND, Ind. — Earlham College senior LaRon Henry scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half Saturday to lead the Quakers to a 69-60 comeback victory over Kenyon College on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Henry (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) also led both teams with nine rebounds as the Quakers posted their first win of the season. “LaRon Henry stepped up and played his best game of the year,” Earlham Head Coach Jeff Justus said.
Kenyon (5-4, 1-1) pulled away late in the first half of the North Coast Athletic Conference to lead 32-25 at intermission. “We rededicated ourselves at halftime to doing more on offense and taking it at them at both ends of the floor,” Justus said. “The players responded really well.”
The response, however, didn’t start right away as the Lords led 39-29 with 17:11 remaining in the contest. A 15-4 run ending with 3-pointer by junior Neil Collins (Ft. Wayne, IN/North) gave the Quakers a 44-43 advantage with 9:37 to go.
Another 3-pointer by senior Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond) put Earlham in front for good 51-48 with 6:32 left as the Quakers put the game away leading by as much as 10 points the rest of the way.
Jewett and Collins finished with 13 points each, while junior Nick Welsh (Muncie, IN/Wes-Del) tossed in 10 points. Sophomore Tristian Gregory (Evansville,IN/Harrison) added eight points.
Earlham (1-5, 1-1) returns to action at home on Thursday against Rose-Hulman. The non-conference game begins at 7:30 p.m.
