Slow Start Hurts Quakers on the Road

ANDERSON, Ind. — A furious rally fell short on Monday night as the Earlham College men’s basketball team dropped an 84-74 decision at Anderson University.
Earlham trailed by as much as 24 points in the second half, but the shooting of sophomore Tristian Gregory (Evansville, IN/Harrison) brought the Quakers back as they looked for their fourth straight win.
Gregory scored 18 of his career-high 22 points in the second period. Senior Markous Jewett (Richmond, IN/Richmond) tossed in 21 points and classmate LaRon Henry (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) added 11 points.
Junior Neil Collins (Ft. Wayne, IN/North) finished with nine points, while junior Nick Welsh (Muncie, IN/Wes-Del) led the Quakers with six rebounds.
Anderson (4-5) scored the first nine points of the contest to set the tone for the opening half. The Ravens built a 27-10 lead with 10:21 left and eventually held a 48-32 advantage at intermission.
In the second half, Anderson maintained its edge and led 71-47 with 6:55 remaining in the contest. From that point, the Quakers went on a 26-4 run to close the cap to 77-73 at the 1:38 mark with Gregory scoring 15 points during the stretch, but the Ravens ended the game with a 7-1 run to put the contest away.
The Quakers (3-6) play Muskingum College on Wednesday in the opening round of the Hilton Gardens Inn/Jacksons Classic at Washington & Jefferson College in Pennsylvania. The contest begins at 6 p.m.
Manchester College and Washington & Jefferson play at 8 p.m. Wednesday’s winners meet on Thursday at 8 p.m., while the consolation game is at 6 p.m.
