Jan. 4, 2008
RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College men’s basketball squad had three players in double figures on Friday as the Quakers dropped a 79-75 decision to Hiram College on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Junior Tristian Gregory (Evansville, IN/Harrison) led the way with 22 points in the North Coast Athletic Conference game, while sophomores Tarrell Berry (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) and Justin Carter (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) finished with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Berry ended the night with 15 rebounds for the initial double-double of his career. It was also the fifth time he has recorded more than 10 rebounds in a game this season.
Senior Nick Welsh (Muncie, IN/Wes-Del) added nine points and six rebounds.
Carter gave the Quakers an early 10-2 lead at the 17:30 mark of the opening half. However, Hiram responded and eventually built a 28-16 advantage with 8:45 left in the first period. The Terriers would lead 42-35 by intermission.
In the second half, Earlham fought its way back and led 64-63 when Gregory scored at 6:23. Less than a minute later senior Terrel Brown (Richmond, IN/Richmond) nailed a 3-pointer to give the Quakers a 67-63 advantage with 5:42 left.
The Terriers (3-7, 1-1) bounced back to go in front, but Earlham responded as Gregory gave the Quakers a 75-74 lead with 1:13 left. Unfortunately for the Quakers, Hiram scored the last five points to put the contest away.
Earlham (2-9, 0-2) entertains conference foe Allegheny College on Saturday. The contest gets underway at 4 p.m.
