DELAWARE, Ohio — Saturday’s road trip did go as planned as the Earlham College men’s basketball team dropped a 79-53 decision to North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University.
Senior Nick Welsh (Muncie, IN/Wes-Del) led the Quakers with 23 points and four rebounds, while sophomore Tarrell Berry (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) tossed in 14 points with three rebounds. Sophomore Malick Keita (Bamako, Mali/Lycee Francais Liberte) added seven points, three rebounds and three assists.
Junior Tristian Gregory (Evansville, IN/Harrison), Earlham’s leading scorer at 19.6 per game, suffered an ankle injury in practice this week and was limited to 24 minutes of action scoring two points.
Earlham fell behind early in the contest trailing 8-2 after three minutes. Ohio Wesleyan (9-5, 5-2) widened its margin to 12 points before the Quakers rallied to cut the deficit to 23-15 when Keita nailed a 3-pointer with 7:37 left in the period.
However, from that time Ohio Wesleyan finished the half with a 14-4 run to lead 37-19 at the break. In the second half, Ohio Wesleyan gradually pulled away for the victory.
The Quakers (2-13, 0-6) face Wabash College at home on Wednesday. The NCAC game on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Box score.
