Quakers Entertain Denison University

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College men’s basketball team dropped a 55-49 decision to Denison University Wednesday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Sophomore Tarrell Berry (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) led the Quakers with 14 points and six rebounds, while junior Tristian Gregory (Evansville, IN/Harrison) added 12 points and four rebounds with three assists.
Senior Nick Welsh (Muncie, IN/Wes-Del) contributed eight points and four rebounds.
Earlham led for most of the first half jumping out to a 7-2 advantage when Welsh scored with 16:35 left in the opening period.
Denison (1-17, 1-8) rallied to take an 11-10 lead by the 12:32 mark before the Quakers went back in front and built a 21-17 lead with 2:43 remaining. Unfortunately for Earlham, the Big Red finished the half with an 8-2 run to hold a 25-23 lead at intermission.
After sophomore Justin Carter (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) scored to tie the game at 25-25 with 18:51 left, Denison score the next five points to take the lead for good at 30-25 by the 14:43 mark.
From that point the Quakers responded and closed the gap to 50-49 when Carter nailed a pair of free throws with 54 seconds left in the game. Denison then hit 5-of-6 free throws to put the game away.
The Quakers (2-16, 0-9) visit Oberlin College on Saturday. The NCAC game gets underway at 5 p.m. Box score.
