Quakers Face NCAC Co-Leader

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Earlham College men’s basketball team battled one of top teams in the North Coast Athletic Conference on Wednesday night as the Quakers fell to Wittenberg University 70-54.
Wittenberg (14-6, 10-1) remains in the first place tie with the College of Wooster (17-3, 10-1), which beat Hiram College 104-61.
Junior Tristian Gregory (Evansville, IN/Harrison) led the Quakers with 16 points, while senior Nick Welsh (Muncie, IN/Wes-Del) added 13 points and topped the squad with seven rebounds.
Senior Neil Collins (Ft. Wayne, IN/North) tossed in 11 points and contributed five assists.
The Tigers started the night with an 18-2 advantage by the 14:33 mark of the first half before the Quakers were able to respond.
Earlham worked its way back and eventually led 24-22 when Gregory nailed a 3-pointer with 5:54 remaining in the opening period. Unfortunately for the Quakers, Wittenberg scored the final 14 points of the half to lead 36-24 at intermission.
In the second half, the Tigers built a 45-26 lead with 16:29 on the clock. Earlham was able to close the gap to six points twice with the last time coming when Welsh had a rebound basket with 8:32 left to play.
The Quakers (2-18, 0-11) return home on Saturday to entertain Kenyon College. The NCAC contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center is at 3 p.m. Box score.
